Beaver Field

Located on the campus of Pennsylvania State University and home to the Nittany Lions, Beaver Field can seat over 107,000 fans and is one of the largest fields in the U.S.

The first game at the 500-seat Beaver Field was played on Nov. 6, 1893 against Western University of Pittsburgh (later to become the University of Pittsburgh). The 32-0 Penn State victory was delayed two days because of bad weather and played on a Monday afternoon.

Penn State allows tailgating just outside Beaver Field. Alcohol is permitted in the areas around the venue while tailgating.

The famed S-Zone, which is a section designated for students only, sits on the 20-yard line. Fans wear blue and white shirts furnished by the Penn State Lion Ambassadors. The students create an S in the senior student section.

Lighting was added in 1984 so that the Lions could host night games. The horseshoe seating configuration has 110 rows on the east side, 100 rows on the west, 60 in the lower end zones, 35 in the north upper deck, 20 in the club seating level and 25 in the south upper deck.

The field is named in honor of James A. Beaver. A lawyer from Bellefonte, he enlisted as a second lieutenant in the Union Army and rose to the rank of brigadier general prior to his discharge in 1864. Beaver was as a superior court judge, governor of Pennsylvania and president of the University’s Board of Trustees.

Penn State University continues to add more seats to Beaver Field. With over 60 luxury suites and an onsite sports museum, it is time to watch college football in person at Beaver Field this season. We have tickets to all games at Beaver Field.
