Only the most elite North and Central American football clubs get to join the CONCACAF Champions League, and the competition is once again on in 2016. Twenty-four teams enter the group stage of the competition, which occurs between August and October. Eight teams will then compete in the knockout phase the following year beginning in March. Four clubs from Mexico, four from the U.S. and one from Canada will join 15 other qualifying teams from the Caribbean, Panama, Honduras, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Belize, Guatemala and El Salvador. The CONCACAF Champions League is a huge deal for the competing teams, as nearly 60 clubs from Central America, North America and the Caribbean battle for one spot in the FIFA Club World Cup. The competition has seen ups and downs so far in 2016, with certain clubs showing that they will be able to go toe to toe with some of the world’s best teams, while others are struggling to keep matches close. Two games will be played in the U.S. on October 19, with the Portland Timbers hosting Deportivo Saprissa in Oregon and Sporting Kansas hosting the Trinidad and Tobago club Central FC in Kansas City. Tickets for those two games start at $13 and $12, respectively.

The CONCACAF Champions League competition kicks off Aug. 3 when the CD Dragons take on the Portland Timbers at Providence Park in Portland, Oregon. Also on Aug. 3, Antigua will face the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey.
