The Buffalo Sabres pulled out a tight victory over San Jose on Feb. 7, prevailing over the Sharks 5-4 in overtime. The victory moved Buffalo’s record to 22-21-10. The Sabres are sixth in the Atlantic Division as the All-Star break approaches.
Trailing 4-1 in the third period, the game looked to be in hand for San Jose, but Buffalo staged an impressive comeback, capped off by a game-winning goal in the extra session by Evander Kane. Buffalo got to overtime by tying the game at 4-4 after scoring three goals in less than four minutes in the third.

After losing two in a row, the Buffalo Sabres beat the Stars 4-1 on January 16. Tyler Ennis was back on the ice after groin surgery, and he was ready to play. In the first 19 seconds of play, he scored an unassisted goal. Jake McCAbe added another unassisted goal later in the period. Jack Eichel helped out by scoring a goal in the second and in the third period. Unfortunately, they did not maintain this momentum and fell 3-4 against the Maple Leafs on the 17. The Buffalo Sabres managed to bounce back in dramatic fashion after two back-to-back losses against the Boston Bruins at the end of the year. In their first game of 2017, they visited Madison Square Garden for a clash with the New York Rangers. The Sabres led the entire match, ultimately claiming the 4-1 victory. This can be extremely wearing on a team and it showed when they lost their last two shootouts between the Hurricanes and the Panthers. Against the Oilers, Buffalo got an early lead after Evander Kane and Brian Gionta scored in the first period. The game was tied after the Oilers scored two in the second period. Each team scored one in the third period, with Kane scoring for the Sabres. In overtime, Rasmus Ristolainen scored for the Sabres to win the game. The Buffalo Sabres beat the Penguins in a shootout game on November 19. Anders Nilsson had an impressive 46 saves. William Carrier scored early, and then the Penguins tied it up in the third. Cal O’REilly had the only goal in the shootout to give the Sabres the win. They continued their winning ways when they beat the Flames 4-2 on the 21. However, they were unable to get another win when they lost in a shootout against the Red Wings on the 23. They next head to Washington to play the Capitals and then off to Ottawa to play the Senators on the 29 and back home on the 1 to host the Rangers. Yesterday was tough for fans of the Buffalo Sabres. The home team was unable to stop the visiting Ottawa Senators and, unfortunately, the loss came in a shootout. Buffalo had taken the early lead in the first period, scoring a single goal. That goal was answered in the second period, with Ottawa tacking on a point of their own. Neither team could break the tie in regular time. It went to a shootout, where the Senators managed to outscore the Sabres 2 - 1. They are on a three-game losing streak despite their ability to score goals during each game played. On October 25, the Sabres played against the Philadelphia Flyers. The game was nothing short of exciting, especially when they Sabres scored three goals in the second period. However, the Flyers didn’t let that get them down and instead they answered with three goals of their own in the third period, leading the two teams into overtime. The Sabres are hopeful for the season, but they will have to work without Jack Eichel for at least the first part. This week during practice, he suffered an ankle sprain, which might take between 46 and 48 days to recover.
