The Arizona Diamondbacks held on to their lead and beat the Reds in the final game of a three game series on July 24. Yasmany Tomas hit two homers and Welington Castillo and Paul Goldschmidt also had home runs. The two teams went back and forth during the first three innings, ending tied 5-5. The Diamondbacks drew ahead in the fifth and sixth and got one more in the eighth. The Reds tried to rally, but fell short by one and the Diamondbacks came home the victor. After a win against the Padres on July 5, the Arizona Diamondbacks have found themselves four games into a losing streak as they take a brief break for the All Star game. The latest defeat was against the Giants on July 10. The Giants got two runs in the first, but then the Diamondbacks held them from scoring again for several innings, until they got two more in the seventh. The Diamondbacks had difficulty finding their offense, and only had one hit and no runs. The Diamondbacks head home to host the Dodgers for three games starting on July 15. The first game was close, with the Diamondbacks overtaking the Rockies during a four-run third inning, followed by a two run fourth. The Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Cardinals 2-1 in their latest three game series. In the first game, the Diamondbacks won 11-7, thanks in part to a 5 run eighth inning. The Cardinals tried to rally at the bottom of the 9th and got 5 runs of their own, but the Diamondbacks had amassed sufficient runs to retain the lead and win the game. They were not so lucky in the second and fell 6-2. They bounced back in the third game and came out ready to play, scoring 3 runs in the first inning and winning 7-2. The Arizona Diamondbacks had their way with the Colorado Rockies last night, defeating the struggling home team handily 5-1. For the Rockies, this loss continues their “hometown curse.” Although they look unstoppable on the road, they have a cringe-worthy 4-10 record at Coors Field. This is just the second of three games the D-backs will play at Coors, and based on their performance last night, the Rockies should be worried for tonight’s final matchup.
