Head-to-Head: New England vs Pittsburgh, Philadelphia vs Washington, St. Louis vs San Francisco

This week's NFL matchup of the week features a pair of AFC powers, as the New England Patriots travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers in the Sunday night prime-time game. Both squads are 6-2 and tied for first in their respective divisions; the Pats share the lead with the New York Jets in the AFC East, while the Steelers are level with the Baltimore Ravens.

The host Steelers are coming off a solid division win over the Bengals Monday night, after dropping one to the New Orleans Saints the previous week. They're getting it done, as they historically do, through stifling defense; while they are currently ranked second in the league in total defense, the offense is struggling at 28th out of the 32 teams. Although Troy Polamalu is the face of the current Steel Curtain, linebacker Lawrence Timmons is fourth in the league in tackles.

Leading the league in tackles, however, is New England's linebacker Jerod Mayo. He is the bright spot in New England's team defense, which ranks 29th in total defense. The Patriots also rank 20th in total offense; resurgent quarterback Tom Brady is sixth in the league in touchdowns (14) and passer rating (95.7), while 14th overall in passing yards with 1,826.

Before a shocking loss to Cleveland, the Patriots had reeled off five straight wins, so they will definitely be looking to get back on the winning track.

Other games to keep an eye on: An NFC East rematch between the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins in Landover, MD. Rejuvenated Eagles QB Michael Vick continues to amaze fans with his passing and running ability, while Skins QB (and former Eagle) Donovan McNabb will be looking for some redemption after a bye week and an inexplicable benching at the end of their loss to Detroit two weeks ago. St. Louis at San Francisco will feature a matchup of two Heisman Trophy winning quarterbacks—2008 winner Sam Bradford (Rams), against 2006 winner Troy Smith (49ers).
