US Music Festivals in July & August 2019 - Shop Cheap Music Festival Tickets!

There’s a reason that lots of the big US music festivals take place in June. Because, as we’ve seen with the weather lately, July and August are just too damn hot to be outside dancing and raging all day long! But if you’re looking for some live music and festival action during July and August this summer, there are still lots of options – particularly if you head out west or up to some of the cooler states! There are also some lesser-known festivals out there attracting big names! Here are five music festivals going on in the US during July and August 2019 that you may not know about…

Newport Folk Festival – Newport, Rhode Island – July 26-28

Get a little offbeat at this coastal Rhode Island music festival held at Fort Adams, a beautiful part of the state park system. There are four stages and a couple of (craft) beer (and wine) gardens, plus all that fab New England food. The Grammy-winning Kacey Musgraves is headlining – so you’ll definitely know her – along with other artists like Sheryl Crow, Hozier, Portugal. The Man, and Trey Anastasio. But then you get to check out the likes of Jeff Tweedy, Todd Snider, Phil Lesh, Lake Street Drive, and Stephen Marley. And there are sure to be lots of acts you don’t know! Festivalgoers range from hipster to prepster and young to old. Bose is helping to sponsor the event so check out their pop-up as well as lots of other displays at the fest! You can also arrive by boat, which is cool…

The Peach Music Festival – Scranton, Pennsylvania – July 25-28

Get ready to jam out in your tie dye. This one is a camping festival too, so get your tickets and bring your tent or RV! Trey Anastasio and Phil Lesh will also be at this festival (with their respective bands) over at Montage Mountain, a pretty scenic natural setting. You’ll also be grooving to the jam band sounds of The String Cheese Incident (two nights!) and moe. Plus you’ve got Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Big Something, and Warren Haynes with Grace Potter. And an outdoorsy fest like this wouldn’t be complete without a few bluegrass bands like the Infamous Stringdusters. The vibe should be chill, fun-loving, and a little bit dirty… you know, from the camping!

Mo Pop Festival – Detroit, Michigan – July 27-28

Head to Mo Pop to see some mega-popular artists who have been festival hopping all season – like Tame Impala, Vampire Weekend, and the amazing Lizzo – alongside a handful of other artists at this small Detroit festival. Set on the Detroit River in West Riverfront Park, it highlights local artisans, food, and music of the city. There’s a food truck rally, craft bazaar, dance party, and arcade too. Mo Pop is only a two-day affair so you won’t have to exhaust yourself with a marathon of music and partying, and its smaller size means you’ll probably be able to get closer to some of your fave artists during their sets. Be sure to check out performers like Ella Mai, Kai Uchis, and Snail Mail too.

RockyGrass – Lyons, Colorado – July 26-28

Into nature and bluegrass? Then RockyGrass is your kind of music festival heaven. Plus, it’s family friendly! There’s camping, string instruments, and only about 5,000 other festivalgoers for a more intimate woodsy vibe. The Soggy Bottom Boys and the Sam Bush Bluegrass Band are headlining, but there will be plenty of picking and jamming going on over these three days and nights. When you’re not listening stage-side, you can also check out some music and instrument contests, visit the family tent for kids activities, or take part in some workshops in the Wildflower Pavillion. RockyGrass is part of the same series as the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, so you know it’s quality stuff! Get ready to hear a lot of banjos…

Seven Peaks Festival – Buena Vista, Colorado – August 30 – September 1

Another Colorado festival, this one thrown together by country singer Dierks Bentley, is one of the best for country music in the mountains. If you’re into that and you don’t have plans for Labor Day weekend, bring your tent (or RV) and head on out to Buena Vista. It’s Dierks and Luke Bryan headlining, but there will be a ton of throwback 90s stars like Travis Tritt, Deana Carter, Tracey Lawrence, Diamond Rio, and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (well, they’re even older than that!). Yes, expect mullet wigs and denim vests when they play the old stuff. You’ll also see Jon Pardi and Maren Morris, along with a few up-and-coming artists. Bring your floats and your coolers because there’s also a beach where you can party. If you’re into excursions, you can even go white water rafting outside this beautiful little Colorado town.
