When it comes to theatre, we’ve talked about Broadway shows and Cirque du Soleil. But STOMP is a different kind of show altogether. According to their website, STOMP is a “unique blend of percussion, music, and visual comedy.” But you really do have to see it to understand. These shows are lively, fun, and great for the whole family (ages 4 and up anyway!). If you’re heading up to New York City and you want to see a show, go ahead and get your tickets to STOMP now! We’ll tell you what it’s all about in this blog post. Well, sorta…

What’s It Like?
If you’ve never heard of Stomp, it’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before. There’s a storyline, yet there’s no real speaking. There’s still plenty going on though! There are brooms, lighters, matchboxes, wooden poles, shopping carts, and garbage cans – all used as makeshift instruments – and a super talented group of diverse performers up on stage. They take the ordinary and make it into something unimaginably creative. You’ll get to see impressive athleticism, coordination, and all those other things that most of us don’t have – live right in front of you!
Stomp began its run in New York City in 1994 and there’s a reason it has continued to attract the masses for decades with “the rhythm of New York.” Despite the tagline, the show actually started in Brighton, England three years earlier, but since then, more than 15 million people have gone to see Stomp in over 53 countries! There’s acrobatics, acting, amazing music, and lots of laughter.
Today, when it’s not traveling the nation, Stomp takes place at the Orpheum Theatre in New York City. The theatre is smaller than others because this is an Off-Broadway production and all, but the quality of performance is still high. The smaller size of the venue allows for more intimacy, as well as brilliant acoustics and great views from every angle. If there’s anything negative that can be said, it’s that the theatre is a bit dated and the seats are a bit cramped. The cast also tailors performances to the particular audience on any given day, so the show is always one of a kind!
Stomp takes place every day of the week (except Mondays) with shows starting at 8PM on weeknights. On Saturdays, there are shows 3PM and 8PM, and on Sunday, you can check out the matinee at 2PM and 5:30PM. Whichever you choose, get there early to grab snacks and drinks and find your seats! There’s no intermission, so go to the bathroom and get ready for the full, intense hour and 45 minutes of fun. As with any theatre, you can purchase drinks, snacks, and candy before the show. Oh, and you can also buy Stomp merch while you’re there!
Regular and Premium tickets are available for Stomp. On the official site, regular tickets start at $88 while Premium cost $100. The difference? Premium tickets get you the best seats in the house with a better chance of interacting with the cast. You’ll have the best views and be able to actually feel the performance! So then where should you sit? According to fans, the front row is an incredible experience but it’s not for the faint of heart! If you’re down for a little interaction and LOUD noises and music, strap in for a good time and go for Premium!
If you’re a huge fan and want an autograph, they recommend hanging out by the stage door after performances – bring your program!
