We’re already 60-ish games into the MLB regular season. So which teams are we getting excited about? Well, we predicted several top performers early on and we turned out to be right about a couple of them. But it is strange not to see teams like the Red Sox at the top. (Especially considering their ridiculous 2018 season.) Here’s a look at the leaders of the American League as it stands right now and where you can shop cheap MLB tickets to go see a game this summer. New York Yankees

The 27-time World Series champs are at it again. They’ve sent Boston down to third in the AL East, and despite a lengthy list of injuries, New York has managed a 39-22 record. To be fair, that’s the worst record of any current first place team in the American League but it’s a feat in their competitive division. Back in May, the Yanks swept their four-game series against the Orioles and then managed to put away the Royals, Padres, and Red Sox each 2-1. These wins early on in the season are crucial if they want to stay at the top and avoid that wild card slot like last year.

Recently, the Yankees have struggled against the Blue Jays (of all teams!) including a tough 11-7 loss, which is not great for their division ranking. But the good news is that big-time slugger Aaron Judge could be back by the end of June! Word is that his oblique strain is now fully healed. The Yankees meet up with the Red Sox across the pond in London at the end of June. Now that would be a fun game to see in person!

Minnesota Twins

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the season, the Twins are leading the AL Central Division with a record of 41-20 and a clear shot at the postseason. The second-place Cleveland Indians are a solid 10 games behind. Back in May, they swept the Angels and the White Sox in each of their series, went 1-1 with the Brewers, and 3-1 against the Rays. Just this week, Max Kepler saved Minnesota from being swept by the Indians by hitting three homers in Thursday’s game. Three!

The bullpen could use some work, but it’s hard to be too upset seeing as the Twins are more than 20 games over .500 right now. When it comes to pitching, they’re very middle of the road for the American League with a 10th-best ERA of 4.67. They missed out on a Craig Kimbrel trade, but they’ve still got Jose Berrios and Perez leading the team’s bullpen… and there’s always room for a couple more trades over the season to improve. Still, the franchise is off to a remarkable start with real playoff hopes this year. Plus, summer is the perfect time to head up to the Twin Cities to catch a game!

Houston Astros

The Astros have been one of the nation’s favorite teams since winning their first World Series back in 2017. They’re just fun to watch! Back in May, they went 2-1 with the Red Sox and the Cubs. At the start of June, they swept the A’s and went 3-2 against the Mariners. The Astros are leading the AL West with a record of 43-21, a big 11 games over the second-place Texas Rangers, and they don’t look to be slowing down any time soon. Houston has won 8 out of their last 10 games as they go for their third straight 100-win season.

The Astros just might have the best pitching staff in the league. They’re elite when it comes to preventing batters from getting on base, with the second-lowest WHIP in history right now, and experienced pitchers like Justin Verlander leading the team. It doesn’t hurt that you’ve got batters like Jose Altuve always threatening to produce a home run. The Astros look set. We wouldn’t be surprised to see them battle it out for a spot in the World Series… again.
