Target Center opened it doors on October 13, 1990. A unique fact is the Target Center was the first major arena in the U.S. that was designated completely non-smoking – as it remains to this day. Home to the Minnesota Timberwolves, the center offers approximately 20,500 seats for basketball. In addition, there are 13,000 to 19,000 for end-stage concerts and almost 19,500 for center-stage concerts.
To protect the fans from the cold weather during basketball season, there is a heated skyway that is connected to parking ramps that are located in downtown Minneapolis. Encompassing one-and-one-half square blocks, there are 10 floors and a expansive cat walk. With over 70 exits, parking is located within three blocks of this downtown venue.
The floor of the center is movable and can be raised or lowered in just over 25 minutes. The scoreboard features a massive video screen and LED signage. The upper deck front houses a LED sign as well as a luxury lounge, plus possesses great access for fans with disabilities.
For mixed martial arts fans the center has hosted bouts, including the Welterweight title match between Georges St. Pierre and Jon Fitch in 2008 with St. Pierre winning.
