Built in 1969 the site, which includes the track and the parking lots, is about 3000 acres in size. The infield can accommodate several thousand of fans as it boasts over 210 acres of prime spaces. Tours are available for fans to view the entire venue as well as the International Motorsports Hall of Fame and Museum, which is located next to the speedway.
Featuring a tri-oval course, the track is 2.66 miles long. The frontstretch is 4300 feet long with a 4000 feet wide backstretch. Banking stats include 33 degrees on the north and south turns with the grandstand tri-oval banked at 16-plus degrees. The track is just under 50-feet wide and the apron adds 12 more feet to the width.
This superspeedway has added a SAFER wall staring in 2000. They are designed to absorb the energy and can make reduce the impact when a driver makes contact with the barriers. The barrier extends into the turns and track for nearly 30 inches and is 40 inches high.
The massive grandstands have reserved seating on the west and east side of the roadway. One mile of seating is available on the west side. The east side contains the Allison Grandstand, named in honor of the famous Alabama racing family by the same name.
