The Los Angeles Coliseum opened in 1923. By 1933 it was known as Olympic Stadium and could seat at that time over 101,500 fans. The famous torch is still located at the east end of the structure.
Today f eaturing a capacity of over 93,600, the Coliseum has hosted plenty of memorable sports events over the years. In March of 2008, it hosted the 50th anniversary of the Los Angeles Dodgers when they played an exhibition game against the Boston Red Sox. On June 17, 2009, the Coliseum played host to the 2009 NBA World Champion Los Angeles Lakers as the end point of their championship parade.
The Coliseum has hosted a variety of globally important events, including the 1988 Amnesty International Tour, 1987 Papal Mass (the first-ever papal visit to Los Angeles), and the Billy Graham Crusade, which set an all-time attendance record of 134,254.
Over the years, the Coliseum has been home to many sports teams besides the University of Southern California Trojans, including UCLA football, Los Angeles Rams and Raiders football, and Los Angeles Dodgers baseball. The Coliseum has hosted various other events, from concerts and speeches to track meets and motorcycle races.
