On August 18, 1995, the Jacksonville Jaguars played their first home game, the first game of their inaugural season as an expansion team in this stadium. This stadium was built so that a franchise could to be awarded by the NFL. Construction for a new stadium on the site of the Gator Bowl began on January 3, 1994 and was completed 19 months later.
The grandstand seating consists of two two-tiered decks located on both sides of the field. Encompassing the entire field is a lower deck of seating. There are two very large video scoreboards sitting on both ends of the stadium.
The stadium has many amenities including 10,000 club seats. The Crown Royal Touchdown Clubs provide more than 65,000 square feet of air-conditioned comfort with a variety of food and beverage selections.
The Jaguars have been known to tarp off seven sections of seating in the upper deck to reduce the seating if needed.
