Founded back in 1872, the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University is a public land-grant facility located in Blacksburg, Virginia. This remains one of the few public schools in the country that continues to carry a corp of cadet soldiers. The university has a good reputation in the fields of agriculture, architecture, business, engineering and science.
The Virginia Tech Hokies compete for conference bragging rights in the Atlantic Coast Conference, with football being the sport the Hokies consistently do well in, particularly during the days of current NFL quarterback Michael Vick. The Hokies defend their home turf at Lane Stadium during football season, then make their way over to Cassell Coliseum once basketball season begins.
