Founded in 1819 by none other than President Thomas Jefferson, the University of Virginia is located in Charlottesville, Virginia. This college was one of the first to offer programs in areas such as astronomy and philosophy, and was the first university to have an engineering school attached to it.
Athletically, UVA has won national titles in sports such as lacrosse and boxing. During football season Cavaliers fans can support their school at Scott Stadium, while during basketball season, the John Paul Jones Arena is the place to be. Be sure to take in as many events as you can when you visit Charlottesville and the University of Virginia!
