The University of Tennessee Knoxville was founded in 1794. The school's nickname of the Volunteers comes from the high numbers of people in the state who volunteered for the American Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Texas Revolution, the Mexican-American War, as well as both sides of the Civil War.
UT is a consistent factor in SEC competition, with the women's basketball team far and away the most recognized program on campus with its multiple national championships. Basketball is played at Thompson-Boling Arena, while during football season you will be visiting Neyland Stadium. There are plenty of venues near the University of Tennessee that provide great music for your listening pleasure. Be sure to visit the Bijou Theatre, Knoxville Coliseum, Tennessee Theatre and the World's Fair Park while in Knoxville.
