University of Southern California officially opened in 1880 and is the oldest research university in the state of California. Approximately 33,000 students are currently enrolled at USC. The University of Southern California campus is located near downtown Los Angeles. The campus has gorgeous architecture design, inspired by the Roman Golden Age. The USC Trojans play at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. This historic landmark is truly a sight. During football season the stadium swells with energetic fans and the famous USC Song Girls help to pump up the crowd and cheer on the Trojans.
The USC Trojans are a consistent top-rated NCAA Football team. The Trojans have won 11 championships and are often featured in the top AP college football polls. The USC Trojans have a strong tradition in basketball and baseball as well, with the baseball squad having won an amazing 12 national titles. If you are in “Troy” during hoops season, a visit to the Galen Center is a must. When the Trojans are not competing against their Pac 10 foes, particularly cross-town rival UCLA, be sure to take in a concert at Club Nokia or the House of Blues, or stimulate your love of the arts at the Kirk Douglas Theatre.
