University of Pittsburgh

Founded in 1787, the University of Pittsburgh is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Pitt was a private institution until 1966 when it joined the Commonwealth System of Higher Education. Known for its quality medical and philosophy programs, the University of Pittsburgh is also well-known for is centerpiece building, the Cathedral of Learning. Measuring 535 feet high, the Cathedral of Learning is the tellest educational building in the Western Hemisphere.

The Pitt Panthers compete with schools in the Big East Conference, playing their home football games at Heinz Field, home of the Pittsburgh Steelers. When basketball is in full swing the Panthers host their opponents at the Petersen Events Center. While visiting the University of Pittsburgh, be sure to check out a show or concert at the Diesel Club Lounge, Heinz Hall and Mr Smalls Theatre.
