The University of Oklahoma was founded in 1890 and is located in Norman, Oklahoma. Academically this school has developed a strong reputation over the years. It has graduated a high number of Rhodes Scholars and has a high number of National Merit Scholars, all while also having a reputation as a school with great economical value. Its Honors College has national recognition as well.
The Sooners have a tremendous reputation in athletics, having won national championships in football and baseball. Since the introduction of the BCS Championship system in football, the Sooners have been a consistent threat for a national title. Be sure to take the opportunity to root on the Sooners at Memorial Stadium during football season and the Lloyd Noble Center for basketball. OU is involved in two huge rivalries during football season, the Red River Rivalry for state bragging rights with Texas, and the Bedlam Series which encompasses all sports with in-state rival Oklahoma State.
