Founded in 1865, the University of Kentucky is a public, land-grant college located in Lexington, Kentucky. The highest ranked research-based facility in the state, UK has poured revenue into that area of its system, with hopes to become one of the top research universities in the entire country.
The Kentucky Wildcats compete in the dangerous SEC, with its signature sport being basketball. UK has won seven national championships in hoops, making this school a consistent threat year after year. Rupp Arena, named after the coach Adolph Rupp who guided the Wildcats to four of their titles, is where UK makes its home during basketball season.
