Iowa Hawkeyes

The University of Iowa was originally named the State University of Iowa when it was established in 1847. That remains the actual legal name for this fine university. One notable fact about the home of the Iowa Hawkeyes was in 1855 the school became the first public university to admit men and women on an equal basis. The University of Iowa has a strong academic reputation, being one of 60 schools of the Association of American Universities, with membership entailing being one of the top American research universities.

The Hawkeyes are competitive in athletics as well, no mean feat considering they compete in the Big 10 Conference. They dominate in the world of college wrestling, with many national champions under the tutelage of Hall of Fame coach Dan Gable during his illustrious career. Head on over to Kinnick Stadium for an afternoon of football, or enjoy a basketball game or wrestling match at Carver Hawkeye Arena.
