The University of Colorado at Boulder is a public research facility founded in 1876. This college is considered to be a Public Ivy, a public school with the rich academic heritage of the more expensive Ivy League colleges. Located in Boulder, CO, the school’s colors of black and gold were picked to reflect the state’s strong tradition in mining. Through 2009 the school has produced six Noble Laureates and currently ranks fourth in number of NASA astronauts from one school.
The Colorado Buffaloes compete in the Big 12 North, one of the more highly competitive conferences in the nation. A strong history in football, including a national title in 1990, is one of many athletic accomplishments of this university. Take in a Buffs game at Folsom Field, or later in the school year root on the Buffaloes basketball team at the Coors Event Center. Be sure to also satisfy those urges for the arts with a concert at Macky Auditorium or theatre show at the Boulder Theatre.
