University of California was founded in 1868, and boasts an impressive campus size of over 6,000 acres. Over 200,000 students are currently enrolled with alumni of 1.5 million students. This means the University of California Golden bears teams are fully supported! The University of California Golden Bears is an integral part of the Pac-10 conference in the NCAA. The Bears play at California Memorial Stadium in Berkeley, California. This stadium offers breathtaking panoramic views of Strawberry Canyon and Berkeley Hills. The Memorial Stadium was specifically designed and dedicated to the entire UC Berkeley alumni and veterans who passed in World War I.
The UC Berkeley Bears have won two NCAA football championships and are hungry for more. The school’s big rival is the Stanford Cardinal, with the 1982 Big Game between the two schools resulting in The Play, one of the most memorable moments in all of college athletics. The Golden Bears always play aggressively and are continuously ranked well in the Pac-10 division and considered a serious threat by the competition. The University of California Marching band performs at every single game; it’s a tradition and definitely a treat for the eyes and ears. The basketball team makes Haas Pavilion its home, so be sure to check out a hoops game if you visit Cal during the winter months. In between sports events, venture over to the Nob Hill Masonic Auditorium, the Roda Theatre and the Paramount Theatre for all your concert and theatre needs.
