Purdue University was founded in 1869 as a land-grant university. The first college to offer an aeronautics program, Purdue has risen to such high stature in that field that it even out-ranks the United States Air Force Academy. Purdue was the first university to actually offer a four year degree in the field. This type of specialization in aeronautical studies has led to over twenty Purdue graduates becoming astronauts, including the first person to walk on the moon Neil Armstrong.
Located in West Lafayette, Indiana, it makes perfect sense the Boilermakers have a strong basketball tradition. The Purdue basketball team plays their home games at Mackey Arena. During college football season be sure to root on the Boilermakers at Ross-Ade Stadium. The university hosts many other types of events at the Mackey Arena as well.
