Brigham Young University

Brigham Young University is a private research university that was founded in 1875 by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. As the oldest university within the LDS Church Educational System, the college is the country's largest religious university. Students adhere to a strict honor code, with over 90% of the male students leaving school for two years to serve as missionaries. The dental program at BYU is one of the highest rated in the nation.

Brigham Young University has excelled in many sports over the years and competes in the Mountain West Conference, after competing for many years in the WAC. The BYU football team went undefeated and claimed the national championship in 1984. The Cougars play their home football games at LaVell Edwards Stadium, so named for the legendary coach of the Cougars from 1972-2000. During basketball season BYU plays its home games at the Marriott Center.
