Auburn University is a member of the SEC and was founded in 1856 as East Alabama Male College, a liberal arts school. Originally the school focused on agriculture and arts, but as time went on the classics and science became an integral part of the curriculum. One of the few universities in the country to be a land, sea and space grant research center, Auburn has had such notable students pass through its halls as NBA All-Star Charles Barkley, MLB and NFL superstar Bo Jackson and Jimmy Wales, co-founder of Wikipedia.
Sports are big at Auburn, and football reign supreme where the Tigers make their home at Jordan Hare Stadium. Be sure to be there for the Iron Bowl, the yearly showdown with arch-rival Alabama! Once football has ended, there is plenty of great basketball being played over at Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum. No matter what time of year it is, there is always plenty of great action at Auburn University!
