Macbeth Theatre News and Updates

Jack O’Brien’s production of William Shakespeare’s, Macbeth, will be taking over the Vivian Beaumont Theater on Broadway, December through January. One of the most well known and powerful tragedies of all time, the masterpiece documents the frenzied final days of would-be King of Scotland, Macbeth, beside and at the behest of his wife, the lustful Lady Macbeth.

No stranger to the stage, actor Ethan Hawke, has reunited with the Tony Award-winning director Jack O'Brien for their third time, giving new life to the brooding title character. Audiences are sure to enjoy the O’Brien-Hawke duo as their last Shakespeare production together, Henry IV, was widely acclaimed. Opposite Hawke is British sweetheart Anne-Marie Duff, who makes her New-York stage debut portraying a scheming Lady Macbeth with convincing passion as she and her husband fall into madness. Get spooked as you watch the lord haunted by Shakespeare’s unforgettable three Weird sisters, played by an all-male actor trio (including John Glover). The demented witches are granted more stage presence in this rendition, as they plant grisly thoughts and chant “boil, boil, toil and trouble!” across the Scottish landscape.

While the witches supernaturally slither around the stage, O’Brien’s masterful production stands apart from other Macbeth revivals in that it features elaborate fights and battle choreography in full force, revisiting the approach he took in Henry VI. Audiences will be wowed by the monolith sets and paranormal music that comprise this nightmarishly ominous production of the power-hungry Macbeth. Relive the drama that witnesses Scotland’s most notorious couple try to escape their doom!
