Once the Musical 2014 News and Updates
Once the musical debuted on Broadway a couple years ago, but the little play’s blockbuster success prompted the need for the its first-ever North American tour
. The new and incredibly talented company of actor-musicians will bring a piece of Broadway magic to New York, Boston, Durham, Miami, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Denver, Las Vegas, Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, San Francisco and many more in the New Year.
The painstakingly sweet Academy Award-winning indie movie, Once, has been revived into an on-stage production that has already garnered eight Tony Awards including Best Musical. Once is a minimalist affair, with simple staging and costume, and focuses on the intimate creation of music between two collaborators: an Irish artist “Guy” and Czech immigrant “Girl.” The actors on stage also comprise the orchestra; wholly unique and befitting to the humbled set and gifted singers who brilliantly transpose the tenderness of the original sleeper hit onto the stage.
The musical tackles Once’s distinctive story with more life and zeal than ever, as it illustrates the inseparable connection between love and music even more so than the movie. The Huffington Post calls Once “heart stopping,” while The Reporter acclaims it “one of the best things to happen to Broadway in the past decade.” Fans of the movie, or those being introduced to the story for the first time, can’t help but fall for this romantically endearing folk-musical. Once tickets at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood hover around $90 to start, compared with $60 at Temple Buell Theater in Denver, and $152 at Bernard Jacobs Theater in NY.
