WWE 2016 News and Updates
Based on early indications, 2016 will not disappoint WWE fans. The kickoff matches have already delivered epic showdowns between Dolph Ziggler and Baron Corbin, with Corbin’s hubris eventually leading to his demise. Heavyweight Champion of the World Roman Reigns defended his title against AJ Styles in a gritty, contentious match at WWE Payback, and the beloved Chris Jericho somehow managed to both win and lose to Dean Ambrose in a thrilling battle. All of that, and the action is just getting started. Fans can watch Raw multiple nights a week, and Battleground and Summer Slam events are on the horizon. WWE Raw heads to Tampa on June 27, with tickets starting as low as $47.
It was a bittersweet day for WWE fans on Monday, as former Intercontinental Champion Daniel Bryan officially announced his retirement from the squared circle. The news broke on the Internet earlier in the day, with outlets including ESPN releasing the shocking revelation before the “Yes!” Man himself explained it to the Raw crowd. Cumulative effects of concussions suffered throughout Bryan’s career led to the decision, one which leaves fans with an understandably disappointed feeling—but one tempered with understanding. WWE Live heads to Ontario, California this Tuesday and select seats are still available for purchase. Get in with tickets starting at $63, but don’t hesitate because supplies are limited and they’re going fast!
1/8/16 - A torn rotator cuff stands between you seeing John Cena compete in 2016’s WrestleMania, and the disappointment is practically palpable among wrestling fans. It is unknown when the WWE star suffered the injury, but it has been confirmed that he will not be able to participate in the event that is arguably the most anticipated in the world of wrestling. Via Twitter, Cena announced that he would be headed into surgery soon, and although he was disappointed by the setback he wouldn’t be giving up any time soon. Potential replacements for his fight against the Undertaker have been much speculated and might include Daniel Bryan, Dean Ambrose, Sheamus, Sting and Finn Balor.
12/25/15 - Each year, WWE fans look forward to a number of big-time events and matchups, but one of the lighter moments comes with the distribution of the annual Slammy Awards. 2015’s winners have been announced, headlined by Superstar of the Year Seth Rollins and Diva of the Year Nikki Bella. The Undertaker and Brock Lesner combined for Rivalry and Match of the Year honors, Neville got the nod for Breakout Star and The Usos took home the trophy for Best Tag Team. In a throwback to the 90s Monday Night wars, Sting was also recognized for Surprise Return of the Year, wrapping up the WWE’s latest installment of the ceremony. Tickets are on sale for WWE events throughout the holidays and into 2016—get yours today!
10/23/15 - When you go to a WWE matchup you expect most of the action and raucous energy to come from the wrestling stars in the ring, but fans at the most recent SmackDown event were treated to some pretty intense behavior from security guards. At the end of Kevin Owens’s match, fans gave a standing ovation and were cheering loudly for the victor. What should have been a peaceful, celebratory moment turned somber when some security guards reportedly forced fans “violently” back into their seats. The league has not commented, but many are speculating that the events are tied to new regulations that only allow fans to cheer at specific times.
10/16/15 - If you’ve noticed that the wrestling world is looking a little more feminine lately, you’re not mistaken. It’s October, and that means it is breast cancer awareness month. The WWE has a tradition of going pink as they support Susan G. Komen’s endeavors to find a cure and lend support to women who are battling this life-altering disease. The two organizations have paired up again this year, and the WWE is donating 20 percent of retail profits to further the efforts for breast cancer awareness. This is a great way to enjoy some great wrestling as well as support a worthy cause. Get your tickets for upcoming events such as Hell in a Cell, today!
10/9/15 - Before this week’s WWE Smackdown went down, a wrestling legend announced his retirement. Mark Henry told a reporter that he would not be renewing his contract. He also stated that he actually didn’t intend to get back in the ring when his previous contract was up in 2013, but Vince McMahon managed to change his mind. As to what Henry will do now, he has a lot of things to work on in the next years, including building his business. In other WWE news, this week’s Smackdown definitely did not disappoint, and even featured an impromptu fight between The Showoff and Big E and an explosive smackdown between The Bulgarian Brute and The Human Wrecking Ball.
10/2/15 - There may soon be some fresh faces in the WWE in the forms of wrestlers and referees! One newcomer is Biff Busick, who gave his goodbye speech to Beyond Wrestling to a cheering crowd that chanted, “We will miss you!” Other new faces may include Rich Swann and Athena. Rumor is, the sport will also welcome Eddie Orengo, better known as “Bandido Jr,” as a referee. There are also swirling rumors of a possible feud between John Cena and Dolph Ziggler as a part of the upcoming season of Total Divas. This fight will not take place in the ring; the rivalry exists because of Nikki Bella, who is currently dating Cena bus is Ziggler’s ex-girlfriend.
9/25/15 - WWE fans are reeling after a disturbing injury to Sting during a recent match with Seth Rollins, proving that even wrestling fans can be rattled by something so unexpected. Although further testing is needed to determine the full extent of injury, thankfully, the athlete is okay. He recently spoke up about the incident and his future in the ring. Pending a full recovery, he states he would love to get back into the sport. Wrestling fans do have some good news this week, as the WWE announced a rematch between the Undertaker and Kane as a part of the upcoming Mexico tour. Also swirling is a rumor that The Brothers of Destruction will face the Wyatt Family in a reunion that will be anything but peaceful.
9/18/15 - Although there is always plenty of ongoing drama to obsess over in the WWE, the league took a pause from the usual antics to acknowledge a former wrestling champion’s success outside of the ring this week. The league published a statement on their website today speculating that former star The Rock, or Dwayne Johnson, is expecting a baby with long time girlfriend Lauren Hashian. They could not confirm whether or not the rumors were true, but nonetheless wished nothing but the biggest of congratulations to The Great One, who met Hashian way back in 2006. The Rock has left a great legacy in the league, so do not miss any of the upcoming excitement including the much anticipated Summer Slam and Hall of Fame Induction.
9/11/15 - There have been a lot of shake-ups in the WWE recently, and this week has been no different. Many fans have enjoyed the return of The Dudley Boyz, and in fact their comeback has generated much interest in professional wrestling. The league may now be considering another comeback story, and fans are hoping it will be Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy who return to the ring. Fans have been asked to leave their feedback on the subject on Facebook. While many would love to see a nostalgic rematch between The Hardy Boyz and The Dudley Boyz, the league may take some convincing. The Hardy Boyz were notorious for their bad behavior, both in and out of the rink. Although they would be a huge liability for the WWE, it’s clear that many fans still want them back.
9/4/15 - It seems the WWE world has been full of controversy this last week. Hulk Hogan continues to make news after he was recently removed from the hall of fame and any WWE association. Hogan released a tearful apology, asking to be reinstated, but WWE seems to be steadfast in their decision. Additionally, Tammy "Sunny" Sytch had made waves after she advertised private Skype sessions with fans. No actions have been taken by WWE against Sunny yet, but many suspect she may suffer the same fate as Hulk Hogan. Despite the recent news, WWE continues to host numerous wrestling matches all over the country that you can attend. Find an event near you and get your tickets early. Notably, WWE Live is currently visiting Hampton, VA and WWE Smackdown is coming to Pennsylvania.
8/28/15 - The WWE SmackDown did not disappoint on Thursday night, with a series of action packed match ups, including the much-anticipated comeback of one of professional wrestling’s best tag team duos. That powerful pair was none other than Bubba Ray and D-Von Dudley, who looked anything but yesterday’s news in the ring. At one point roughly halfway through the match, Ray and Dudley attempted to use a table. They were ultimately stopped by Konnor and Viktor, but not without finishing them with the signature Dudley Death Drop. Don’t miss the next SmackDown show, which is scheduled for Tuesday, September 1 at American Airlines Arena in Miami, FL. Tickets are widely available and currently start at as little as $29. That’s a steal you won’t want to pass up!
8/21/15 - The gossip is flying fast and hard for the upcoming WWE SummerSlam. Of course, the hype is furthered with the copious amounts of trash-talking and rumors about special appearances from the likes of The Rock. The buildup for the appearance of Stephen Amell (better known as Arrow) has been pretty fun to watch unfold. He will take the ring with some help from the likes of Neville, King Barrett and Stardust. Perhaps the most exciting match to watch will be between Kevin Owens and Cesaro, two of the most talented and athletic superstars in the WWE. The title match between John Cena and Seth Rollins is also a must-watch. Will Cena’s long-standing reign come to an end? Be sure to tune in to the SummerSlam competition on Sunday!
8/14/15 - The WWE and its fans are getting excited for the much-anticipated SummerSlam event, but there’s still plenty of SmackDown action happening in the meantime. Last night’s installment was no different. On the women’s side of things, Naomi and Charlotte put on an offensively heavy performance. Although Charlotte walked away with the win, Naomi still looked great as she carried the majority of the offense. Other winners included Reigns and Ambrose as well as Prime Time Players after competitors The New Day attempted to leave before the match was even over. In the main event, Owens and Rollins took home a controversial win, but effectively lost it to Neville and Cesaro in a post-match fight. Stayed tuned in to all your favorite WWE action and don’t forget to get your tickets to the SummerSlam event!
8/7/15 - There’s never a dull moment in the world of the WWE, and this week was no exception. With the sudden and sad news of the passing of Rowdy Roddy Piper, the entire roster came together to honor the former champion, who died of cardiac arrest late last week. Everybody wore Hot Rod t-shirts and watched a video honoring the mentor and idol. In other news, the ongoing feud between John Cena and Seth Rollins continues to make headlines, so it’s no wonder that the pair are set to headline a number of events through September, including one at SummerSlam on Aug. 23. In order to add to the hype, the WWE is also planning to give Rollins some anti-Cena merchandise, including a shirt which says “You Can’t See Knee,” which refers to the nose-breaking blow he gave Cena a while back.
7/31/15 - With WWE SummerSlam on the horizon, whispers are swirling about some of the promotion’s biggest stars—past and present. The Undertaker made a stunning return at the recent Battleground event, signaling an impending battle with Brock Lesnar. Meanwhile, rumors continue regarding the potential presence of the legendary Sting. Was his defeat at Wrestlemania the nail in this longtime superstar’s coffin? Or does the Stinger have one last good run left in him? One face fans probably won’t see is the ever-familiar Hulk Hogan, who was released from the roster this week following non-wrestling controversy in the news. With or without the Hulkster, you can bet on exciting action at the next WWE event! Tickets are on sale now for Raw, Summer Slam, and more—claim your seats early!
7/24/15 - Days removed from WWE Battleground, the sports entertainment world is still reeling. In the opening contest, King Barrett defeated R-Truth to retain his King of the Ring crown. Randy Orton took down Sheamus in the second matchup of the evening, followed by the Prime Time Players retaining their Tag Team Championship belts by knocking off The New Day. Bray Wyatt overcame the powerful Roman Reigns in the longest bout of the evening, Charlotte bested Brie Bella and Sasha Banks in a Triple Threat Match, and John Cena held on to the U.S. Championship by forcing Kevin Owens to submit. In the main event, Brock Lesnar defeated Seth Rollins via disqualification after a surprise attack by the returning Undertaker. Next up is Summer Slam in Brooklyn and you can score your tickets right now starting at $156!
7/17/15 - This Sunday, the biggest stars of sports entertainment will match up at WWE Battleground in St. Louis, Missouri. Several championships will be on the line, including the Tag Team Championship, as the Prime Time Players try to fend off the The New Day to retain the belts. Kevin Owens will take on John Cena in hopes of capturing the U.S. Championship, while Seth Rollins will defend the World Heavyweight Title against the dangerous Brock Lesnar. Ryback may face the tallest task of all, as he defends his Intercontinental Championship in a Triple Threat match, taking on both The Miz and Big Show in a much-anticipated contest. Tickets are on sale now for Battleground, RAW and other exciting WWE events featuring all of your favorite superstars.
7/10/15 - WWE fans got a chance to see a little bit of the goings on behind the curtain when the rules for announcers were allegedly released on Reddit by the user KINGJOBBAH. They apparently are the rules sent by WWE CEO Vince McMahon to announcers, but nothing has been confirmed. The guidelines are eight pages long and apparently include words to avoid, do's and don'ts, and other tips that will help to make the experience better for the audience. Some of the WWE stars, including Sami Zayn, Devin Owens, William Regal, and Charlotte, will be heading down to Comic Con in San Diego this weekend, where there will be a live panel, some action figure reveals, and special signings during the weekend. You can get your tickets for all the WWE action here on Razorgator.
7/3/15 - The WWE has faced some serious hits in the news this week. The WWE is being sued by the mother of former professional wrestler, Doink the Clown, also known as Matthew Osborne. She is claiming that the WWE is responsible for the brain injuries her son suffered from inside the wrestling ring. In 2013, Osborne passed away from a drug overdose, which Osborne’s mother says the addiction was from the high number of concussions he endured during his career. His mother goes on to state that the WWE league is aware of the dangers the wrestlers face and they should have stepped in and helped her son with treatment and medication before it was too late. The WWE is currently saying they hold no responsibility for Doink’s death and the law suit holds no merit.
6/26/15 - The World Wrestling Entertainment events are nothing short of exciting each and every time. The latest news in the WWE was the injury sustained by professional wrestler, Jamie Noble. During a WWE Raw event, Noble was taking on Brock Lesnar and things went south near the end of the match. Noble was taken away in an ambulance and it was confirmed later that he suffered from three broken ribs. The WWE organization doesn’t take any risks when it comes to injury, so Noble will be out of the ring until he is completely healed. The world of WWE is still alive and full of entertainment, so get all of your wrestling tickets from us today before it is too late. Your summer will be incomplete without a good professional brawl.
5/8/15 - Certain things never go out of style in the world of professional wrestling, but one gimmick that may be approaching the end of its popularity is the Steel Cage. Once heralded as the ultimate fixture for matchups between bitter rivals, the Steel Cage now tends to generate a lukewarm reaction at best. Originally designed to prevent outside interference, the Cage now seem to welcome intrusion from security. This was noticeable at last Saturday’s main event match between Seth Rollins and Randy Orton, when the WWE interfered with security and ended the rivalry match in an extremely anticlimactic way. In fact, both fans and wrestlers were so disappointed in the results of the Steel Cage match that Rollins and Orton have decided to meet again and settle things later this month.
4/29/15 - Fans have a wide range of opportunities to see their favorite wrestlers fight in the different WWE matches. This week, Dean Ambrose had a bad night in the King of the Ring tournament, but he is hoping for a different outcome when he meets up with Seth Rollins for the main event of SmackDown. The New Day will also be looking to hold onto coveted titles when battling against Tyson Kidd and Cesaro. This week on WWE NXT, Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy fight against Enzo Amore and Colin Cassidy. They won't be battling for a title, but Big Cass and Amore have a chance to earn a future chance at one if the night goes well for them. Tickets to see the events live in an arena near you are available on Razorgator.
4/24/15 - There is always something new going on with the WWE, which is why it is an extremely fun sport to follow. This week during the WWE NXT, Kevin Owens the current NXT champion, realized that there are two outraged rivals looking to take him to the mat. Alex Riley, one of Owens rivals, hit the ring with revenge in his eyes. There was plenty of trash talking, shoving and body slamming before Owens ended the match with a powerbomb. Shortly after the powerbomb, Owens other rival, Sami Zayn emerged from behind the scenes and threatened Owens title. Owens clutched his NXT title while Zayn showed him that he would do anything to make that title his. Don’t miss a second of the sweaty action and get your tickets today.
1/17/14 - These next few weeks are gonna be awesome for WWE nation! The Royal Rumble is only a couple weeks away, and tickets for this colossal event start at just $175. Rumble promises Marquee events with Brock Lesnar vs. Big Show and Randy Orton vs. John Cena already slated for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, while AJ Lee is supposed to take on a challenger from Total Divas in the Diva Championship. Fighters like Alberto Del Rio, Batista, Fandango and more are entered among the 30, who will claim his next victim? Both Hulk Hogan and Roddy Piper are said to appear at WrestleMania XXX, with even more rumors swirling that Chris Jericho, Goldberg, Rob Van Dam, Steve Austin will make returns to the rink, how could you possibly miss the event on April 6? Tickets for WWE Wrestlemania at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans start at only $38, but shoot all the way up to $2789 for a VIP Travel package. With young guns rising and big names back in the works, WWE 2014 is guaranteed to incredible this year. WWE Live and Tuesday Smackdown events are already underway, so lock down your tickets now!
8/5/13 - Celebrating its 50th year in existence in 2013, World Wrestling Entertainment has entertained millions and millions of fans by its theatrics. While matches are available on cable TV and Pay-Per-View, there’s nothing like seeing the thrill and intensity of an event in person. Between WWE Raw, WWE Smackdown, WWE Live, and the numerous main events, there are opportunities to see the best in professional wrestling live all across the country. The average price for WWE tickets is $124. The least expensive events are WWE Live, with an average price of $104. Prices for WWE Raw and WWE Smackdown are now nearly identical, averaging $118 and $117, respectively.
The average price for upcoming main events is more than twice the price of the regular touring events. The most expensive is the Royal Rumble, scheduled for 1/26 in Pittsburgh. Held at the Consol Energy Center, home of the Penguins, it has an average price of $343. WWE Summer Slam will be held on 8/18 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and is much more affordable, averaging $225. Tickets are also available for the Summer Slam Axxess, the fan-fest on 8/17 that precedes Summer Slam. The average price for the event at Nokia Theatre is $178.
