Sporting Kansas City 2016 Season
The Sporting Kansas City professional soccer team has been on a break since their game on June 27 against the Colorado Rapids. They are ready to start playing again after some much needed rest and will take on the Whitecaps FC on July 12. The Sporting Kansas City have their work cut out for them as they take on the number two team in the Western Conference. This will be their first match up against the Whitecaps this season, but Kansas City is hopeful they can pull off the win and boost their team into the number five spot in the Western Conference. Tickets for this game in Vancouver are still available and start at $18. Get your tickets today and make your summer that much more memorable.
6/10/15 - With 24 points in the season to date, Sporting Kansas City sits in the third place on the Western Conference leaderboard. They’re on a two-game winning streak, picking up wins against FC Dallas and the Sounders FC teams in the past few weeks. The KC team actually has a better points-per-game average (1.71) than the Whitecaps FC (1.63), who are tied with the Sounders FC for first place. The next time the Sporting KC hit the field, it’s in Utah against the Real Salt Lake on Saturday (6/21). Local fans will have to wait for Saturday (6/27) to catch the Sporting KC at home against the Colorado Rapids. Tickets are going fast, so you’ll want to get them now to get in to the game. Prices start at $51.
4/9/15 - With eight points through five games on the strength of two wins and two draws, Sporting Kansas City are working their way into a solid place in the Western Conference hierarchy, tied on points with Salt Lake. This could change this weekend when these two clubs square off at Sporting Park Saturday night.
4/2/15 - After four weeks, Sporting Kansas City has earned five points in four games played, on the strength of a win and two ties, against one loss. Sporting will be at home this weekend to take on Philadelphia, who are still looking for their first win of the season.
3/26/15 - Back in the Western Conference after several seasons in the East, Sporting Kansas City are struggling to gain traction. With two draws and one loss in their three matches so far this season, Sporting have allowed four goals while scoring just twice; KC will hope to get a full three points this weekend against New York City F.C.
It’s good to be the king – just ask current MLS Cup holders Sporting Kansas City. Shortly after SKC won the title, the franchise’s second, and its first after the rebrand (formerly the Kansas City Wizards), defender Matt Besler (who has also distinguished himself in World Cup qualifying for the U.S.) was slated to get married during the MLS offseason; when word got out among SKC’s supporters groups, supporters promptly cleaned out Besler and his fiancee’s wedding registry. A number of other former and current American internationals wear SKC’s argyle shirts (their third jersey) as well: Graham Zusi, Teal Bunbury, Benny Feilhaber, and Sal Zizzo; Argentinian striker Claudio Bieler is also a fan favorite.
11/25/13 – On a frigid night in Kansas City, Sporting KC won the Eastern Conference trophy with a 2-1 victory over Houston in front of a crowd of 21,650. The squads have met in the previous two MLS Cup Playoffs, but it was Houston that knocked out Sporting both seasons. A different outcome in 2013, will allow KC to play for their first MLS championship since 2000. The team will host the MLS Cup Final December 7 against Western Conference Final winners Real Salt Lake. MLS Cup tickets range from $226-$472.
Sporting Kansas City has secured a MLS Cup Playoffs berth for the third straight season. The team clinched Saturday when Philadelphia and DC United tied. With two regular season games left, one at home against D.C. United, The Wiz will prepare for postseason play. It will be the twelfth time in franchise history that the club will compete for the Cup. Sporting KC is currently in second place in the Eastern Conference, one point behind the New York Red Bulls in the race for the Supporters’ Shield.
Last season, the team finished first in the East but lost to the Houston Dynamo in the conference semis. The Kansas City roster included Graham Zusi who was named finalist for MLS MVP, Jimmy Nielsen, who was named MLS Goalkeeper of the Year, and Matt Besler who was named Defender of the Year.
Sporting Park in Kansas City played host to the 2013 MLS All-Star Game. The host team had the most representatives with three players voted in by the fans – Matt Besler, Aurélien Collin, and Graham Zusi. Sporting Kansas City tickets for the All-Star Game averaged $164, 26% less than they had cost at the beginning of the season.
