Seattle Sounders FC News – 2013 Sounders Updates
3/15/13 - Seattle acquired forward Obafemi Martins today. It is possible that he will play in Saturday’s big rivalry game against Portland, the fifth most expensive match in the remainder of the 2013 MLS season.
In 2012, Seattle Sounders FC made it to the Conference Finals — further than the club had ever gone in the MLS Cup Playoffs. In 2013, the Sounders enter a transition year with numerous changes to the roster. Striker Fredy Montero was loaned to Colombian champions Millonarios; he was Seattle's all-time top scorer and their biggest offensive force on the field. Seattle is looking to acquire Levante forward Obafemi Martins to fill the gap and start alongside Eddie Johnson. In addition, Seattle added veteran defender Djimi Traore to the Sounders roster. Traore will bring leadership and experience to the team after years of playing in the top soccer leagues in Europe.
The Sounders recently won the 2013 Desert Diamond Cup, a preseason soccer tournament that featured the
New England Revolution,
New York Red Bulls, and
Real Salt Lake. Sounders reserves beat Salt Lake to take home the trophy proving that Seattle has great depth. In addition, Seattle looks to have the best midfield in
Major League Soccer, anchored by Osvaldo Alonso.
The Sounders play their home matches at
CenturyLink field which is also home to the Seattle Seahawks. Seattle Sounders tickets average $48 this season which is just above the MLS average of $45. Big matches on the Sounders schedule include rival
Portland Timbers (3/16, 8/25) and back-to-back MLS Cup Champions
Los Angeles Galaxy (10/27). Timbers-Sounders FC tickets on August 25 are averaging $3 cheaper than Sounders game tickets for the March 16 matchup.
