Cowboys from all over the United States and Canada will descend on Las Vegas in December for the “Super Bowl of Rodeos” -- the National Finals Rodeo. This is the premiere event in the PRCA, so don't miss your chance to see the most talented cowboys in the world. The NFR will feature the top 15 competitors in seven different events: bull riding, bareback riding, calf roping, saddle bronc riding, team roping, steer wrestling and barrel racing. Grab your boots, saddle up and head to the Thomas & Mack Center to see who will take home a coveted golden buckle!

National Finals Rodeo (NFR) History

The National Finals Rodeo, NFR got its start by the PRCA in 1958 to award championships in seven disciplines: bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, tie down roping, bull riding, and barrel racing for women; there is also an all-around championship awarded. The 15 top money winners in each event come to the ten daylong National Finals Rodeo to compete for the championships.

The first National Finals Rodeo was held in Dallas, and continued there until 1961; then from 1962 to 1964, Los Angeles played host. From 1965 through 1984, two Oklahoma City arenas were home to the NFR: the Oklahoma State Fair Arena through 1978 and the Myriad (now Cox) Convention Center until 1984. Since 1985 the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas has hosted the National Finals Rodeo and its trappings, including concerts and Cowboy Christmas, a Western-themed gift show at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

National Finals Rodeo Facts

The National Finals Rodeo, held at the UNLV's Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas has its own special dirt used annually only for the rodeo which is stored on the UNLV campus to be used again the following year.

In the National Finals Rodeo only women barrel race. It's a fast paced event and the competition is fierce. The times of top riders are so close that electronic timing devices accurate to the 100th of a second must be used to determine the winners. Don't delay, National Finals Rodeo tickets are on sale now!
