Brickyard 400 at the Brickyard 2015 News and Updates
6/5/14 - Samuel Deeds 400 is already a classic in the Sprint Cup Series despite being a relatively new race. 2014 marks the 21st running of the Crown Royal Presents the "Your Hero's Name Here 400" at the Brickyard on Sunday, July 13. In addition to seeing the greatest racers in the game speed down the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway, see which hero will have a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series named in his/her honor with Samuel Deeds 400 tickets!
Located at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana, this race started in 1994. Though it has less history than other NASCAR races, it boasts the 2nd highest purse (behind the Daytona 500), and was NASCAR’s most-attended event ever with over 250,000 spectators in its first year.
The coolest part about this race is that when Crown Royal took over as naming sponsor in 2012, they decided to go with a “your name here” program to honor US armed forces personnel and first responders. So in 2012 it was the Curtis Shaver 400 at the Brickyard; Curtis is a firefighter from Troy, Alabama who lost part of his lower left leg in a farming accident when he was 18. This drove him to be a firefighter and EMT with the goal to give back to his community and help those in need. He was chosen from 5 finalists by fan vote on Facebook and was in attendance to ride in the pace car and presented the trophy in Victory Lane. In 2013 it was named after Samuel Deeds, a US Marines Gunnery Sgt and diehard NASCAR fan from Erlanger, Kentucky. While deployed in Iraq he came across an IED and attempted to shield his fellow Marines and was severely injured. Over 3 years later and after 30+ surgeries he saved 3 people caught in a rip tide off the coast of North Carolina. The 2014 Crown Royal presents the “Your Hero’s Name Here” 400 at the Brickyard is still to be named but there are great seat options starting at under $60 each.
