2015 Season

5/11/15 - Each year the Indianapolis 500 is held at the Indianapolis motor Speedway over Memorial Day weekend in May. This race is in the top level of American Championship Car racing and is one of the most prestigious motorsports events held worldwide. Approximately 250,000 people attend this race in Indianapolis and it is considered one of the biggest events of the state. Each driver, usually around 33, has to complete 200 laps that run counterclockwise around the course, which equals a distance of 500 miles. The total purse for the Indy 500 is around $13 million and continues to increase each year. The winner typically takes home about $2.5 million, which makes this event one of the biggest cash prizes in sports history.
