As the first round winds down, the Stanley Cup finals are that much closer for some teams. The predictions are in to see who will go on to the next round, with the Capitals, the Penguins, the Islanders, the Red Wings, the Stars, the Blues, the Predators and the Sharks all expected to make it to the next round. This means that most of the conference finalists from last year may be eliminated in this first round of play. The Capitals are currently the favorite to go all the way to get the Stanley Cup. The first round of the playoffs have commenced, leading the teams closer to the Stanley Cup finals. The Washington Capitals had one of the best seasons, but that does not mean that they will end up taking the crown. They first have to get past the Flyers in the first round of playoffs. Both the St. Louis Blues and Chicago Blackhawks could have a chance to make it to the final round, but they play each other in the first round, so one will see their dream ended soon. The Tampa Bay Lightning and the Chicago Blackhawks are battling it out for the NHL Stanley Cup in the final games. The Lightning are in the lead 2-1. All three games have been tied in the third period. Game 1 ended 2-1, with the Blackhawks winning. In game 2, the Lightning scored first during the first period. Chicago scored the next two goals to get ahead in the second period, but the Lightning answered back to get ahead going into the third period. Chicago tied it up early in the third period, but the Lightning were able to score one more goal to win. 6/4/15 - Each year, the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs produce some of the most dramatic moments in sports. This year’s final round has brought the fireworks early, as Game 1 came down to a pair of late goals from the Chicago Blackhawks which allowed the road team to take a 1-0 series lead. Alex Killorn gave the Tampa Bay Lightning a one-goal lead which they would hold throughout the first two-thirds of the contest, but a late score from Teuvo Teravainen tied things up. Not two minutes later, the go-ahead goal hit the net courtesy of Antoine Vermette, his third of the playoffs. 5/28/15 - The NHL Stanley Cup is nearly over, with the last matchup quickly approaching. All in all, it was a very intense playoffs this year, with five of the 13 matchups so far coming down to the final game. Amusingly, two of those instances turned out to be in the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference finals. Even though the final round is about to begin, four team are still clinging on to the hope of taking the championship: the New York Rangers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Chicago Blackhawks, and the Anaheim Ducks. We will finally find out who will be advancing to the last round on May 30th. The Anaheim Ducks and the New York Rangers have the home rink advantage, so the two underdogs will need to make their play on Saturday.
5/20/15 - The NHL Stanley Cup finals are coming closer. There are just four teams remaining and six to ten games remaining before the final two teams will meet up. The New York Rangers are battling it out with the Tampa Bay Lightening, while the Anaheim Ducks are playing against the Chicago Blackhawks for the chance to play for the Stanley Cup. The latest game between the Ducks and the Blackhawks made news for several reason. First, it went into triple overtime, which means the game lasts 116:12 minutes, which makes it the longest game of the playoffs and the longest in the Blackhawks' history. Additionally, Andrew Shaw scored a header during the second overtime, only to discover that this move is illegal, which also stunned many other players and fans. 5/12/15 - There is much to be talked about regarding the upcoming NHL finals. The Western conference contenders have been finalized this week when the Blackhawks swept the Minnesota Wild and the Anaheim Ducks finished off the Calgary Flames in overtime, ending the series at 4-1. The Ducks and Blackhawks will face off for game one on May 15 at the United Center in Chicago, IL. Tickets for their first game start at $42 a piece. The Eastern conference is still trying to determine who will be getting one step closer to the NHL Stanley Cup. For the New York Rangers and the Washington Capitals it all comes down to game seven, which is held on May 13 at Madison Square Garden. 5/8/15 - All roads lead to the NHL Stanley Cup, and this year’s contenders aren’t leaving any room for doubt that they have both the talent and the will to win. After sweeping the Minnesota Wild, the Blackhawks are much talked about as favorites to win it all and will officially move on to the third round. They will suit up against the Ducks or the Flames, who face off Friday night in game four. In the Eastern Conference, it was looking as if Tampa Bay would also sweep their series against the Canadiens, but in a game which took place Thursday night, Montreal pulled out a 6-2 win. The Rangers and the Capitals will play game five Friday night in New York, and if Washington wins they will advance to the third round.
4/28/15 - One round of playoffs is almost over, ending some teams' dreams of winning the 2015 NHL Stanley Cup. One game remains in the round between the Lightning and the Red Wings, but the NHL has already released the second round schedule, with two scenarios covering either team's advance in the playoffs. Experts have already made their predictions on who will advance to the semifinal round, with a chance to continue to the final match. Many experts believe that the Montreal Canadiens, NY Rangers, the Minnesota Wild, and the Anaheim Ducks will be the teams to advance to the next stage, but it could be any of the eight teams in the second round. 4/23/15 - The NHL Stanley Cup is the most coveted trophy in the entire hockey industry. The two teams that are going to be competing for it this year has yet to be determined because playoff games are still happening. Last year the Los Angeles Kings took home the title, but there will be a new sheriff in town this year since the Kings didn’t make it to post season play.
