Detroit Red Wings 2014 News and Updates
3/3/14 – Pavel Datsyuk (knee) will not play Tuesday night, when the Detroit Red Wings visit New Jersey but is expected back on the ice Thursday against Colorado at Joe Luis Arena. Colorado Avalanche vs. Detroit Red Wings tickets start at $55; the game will be the first at home for the Wings since the Olympic break. The next night, Detroit will host New Jersey, coming full circle. New Jersey Devils vs. Detroit Red Wings tickets are slightly cheaper, with a get-in price of $45.
2/25/14 – Currently in the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, Detroit needs to return to the ice post-Olympics with a sense of urgency. Just one point separates the Red Wings and ninth-ranked Columbus. A back injury will likely sideline the team’s leader in points (48), assists (32), and goals (16) - Henrik Zetterberg - for the rest of the regular season, which means the Wings’ will look to their veterans - Pavel Datsyuk, Johan Franzen and Daniel Alfredsson – to fill the void. Cheer on the Wings when they return to Joe Louis Arena Mar 6; with 11 home games remaining, Detroit Red Wings ticket prices are averaging $94 in the tight playoff race!
2/18/14 – Like their rivals Chicago Blackhawks, the Red Wings have a strong presence at the Sochi Olympics with 10 players on rosters. However, both Detroit’s first-time Olympian forwards Tomas Tatar and Tomas Jurco, ended their Winter Games journey today as Slovakia fell to the Czech Republic in the playoff qualification round. But, each delivered in the group phase of the tournament, scoring the only two goals for their Country in the first three matchups. Detroit Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg pulled out of the Sochi Games last Friday after suffering a herniated disk. The Captain of Team Sweden will return to the U.S. shortly, but will not take the ice when The Wings return to action a week from Wednesday due to the injury.
2/3/14 – The Red Wings may have dropped an 11-goal battle to the Caps Sunday, squashing hopes for a home-and-home sweep, but it was a standout day for right wing Gustav Nyquist who earned his first career hat trick and added an assist. Like the Washington Capitals, the Red Wings have gone to a shootout or overtime in three of their last four games. Tonight, Detroit will face the Canucks as John Tortorella returns to the bench after a 15-game suspension. Detroit Red Wings tickets at Joe Louis Arena are as cheap as $10 to see the 24-19-12 team for the last time at home until March 6.
1/28/14 – Last week NHL fans were asking if the Red Wings, Blackhawks rivalry could be renewed. Detroit Red Wings tickets to the Wednesday night matchup averaged 55 percent less than they had March 3 and 45 percent less than the Original Six members meeting March 31, 2013. Detroit made a statement against the defending Stanley Cup Champs, rallying to defeat the Blackhawks 5-4 (SO) and reviving the rivalry that some questioned could be restored. Things continued to look up for the Wings when Daniel Alfredsson returned to the ice against Montreal Friday and Johan Franzen was back in the lineup Sunday. Unfortunately, Franzen is out again with concussion symptoms. Next up for Detroit at home? Washington. Red Wings tickets are as low as $35 against the Capitals.
Detroit Red Wings 2013-2014 Season
With the NHL realignment
, the Detroit Red Wings were one of three teams to jump conferences. Like the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Red Wings moved from the Western Conference to the Eastern Conference. Detroit is one of eight members of the Atlantic Division, where half the teams in the Division are Original Six members - with Detroit, the Boston Bruins, Montreal Canadiens, and Toronto Maple Leafs. What does the move to the East mean for Detroit's schedule? The move will weaken the rivalry with the Chicago Blackhawks but will allow past-time rivalries to reemerge between the other Original Six members. In addition, Daniel Alfredsson will play his former team the Ottawa Senators more frequently. The Detroit Red Wings schedule includes one of six outdoor games to be played this year in the NHL - the rescheduled NHL Winter Classic. The Toronto Maple Leafs
and Detroit Red Wings, back in the same Division, will compete on New Year’s Day at Michigan Stadium
in Ann Arbor for the Winter Classic title. Detroit Red Wings tickets for the NHL Winter Classic start at $218.
Have the once-formidable Detroit Red Wings lost their luster? Last season, just three seasons removed from back-to-back appearances in the Stanley Cup Finals, the Red Wings were knocked out of the 2012 Stanley Cup playoffs in the first round, four games to one, by Nashville, the first time since Edmonton did the trick in the 2005-06 postseason that's happened. And, in this lockout-shortened season, the Red Wings are muddling along in fourth place in the Central Division, just a few points ahead of perennial doormats Columbus. As a squad, the Red Wings are having trouble scoring more goals (2.6 average per game) than they're allowing (3.0), and are also having difficulties in both power-play and penalty-kill situations; all of this adds up to a mighty struggle for this once-mighty Original Six franchise. Much of Detroit's offensive punch can be found in the center of the ice, as centers Pavel Datsyuk and Damien Brunnen lead the team in goals scored, while fellow center Henrik Zetterberg leads in assists and total points; significant offensive support is also coming from defenseman Niklas Kronwall and wing Johan Franzen. Goaltender Jimmy Howard is having his issues in net, racking up an .896 save percentage while allowing a 3.07 goals against average in 15 games. While the Red Wings are just off the playoff pace in the Western Conference, a middling start may mean there won't be any octopi tossed onto the Joe Louis Arena ice in 2013.
With two months to go in the NHL Season, Red Wings tickets at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit average $72, one of the ten cheapest NHL tickets during the shortened 2013 season. What are the most popular Detroit Red Wings tickets? The Red Wings schedule features upcoming games versus the Chicago Blackhawks, Vancouver Canucks, St. Louis Blues and Columbus Blue Jackets — all with higher ticket prices than the average Wings home game. Detroit hockey fans wanting to net cheap Red Wings tickets under $50 will find seats as low as $20 at select 2013 Red Wings home games. On the road, Detroit hockey tickets average $120, almost $50 more than home games. Despite the Red Wings slow start, the team remains one the ten most popular NHL road teams this season.
