Boston Bruins 2014 News and Updates

4/17/14 - The Boston Bruins will being their attempt of reaching the Stanley Cup Finals for a second consecutive season and for three out of the last four years. To get there the Bruins will start with the Detroit Red Wings when they begin their series tomorrow night, the first playoff meeting between the two franchises in over 50 years.

4/16/14 - The Boston Bruins won the Presidents Trophy as the NHL’s best team in the regular season, but now that the playoffs have begun that means nothing. As everyone knows anything can happen in the Stanley Cup playoffs and just because you had a great regular season won’t necessarily mean you will have a great postseason as well, which the Bruins begin on Friday night against the Detroit Red Wings.

4/15/14 - The Boston Bruins begin their quest for the Stanley Cup until Friday but may face their toughest opponent over the next few days. It has been reported that the flu has been going around the Boston Bruins locker room this week and has affected six players including Patrice Bergeron.

4/14/14 - On Sunday the Boston Bruins discovered who they will be matching up with in the NHL’s Stanley Cup Playoffs which begin this Friday and it will be a team they have a long history with as both members of the Original Six. That team of course being the Detroit Red Wings who were able to just sneak into the playoffs as the eighth seed in the East. Friday will mark the first time these two franchises have met in the playoffs since 1957.

4/11/14 - For the second straight game the Boston Bruins needed to go to a shootout to determine the winner of the game and for the second straight time the Bruins lost in said shootout this time to the Winnipeg Jets. Both times they went to a shootout Boston has failed to put one in the back of the net losing with Tuukka Rask only giving up a single goal in each.

4/10/14 - After a tough shootout loss to the Minnesota Wild who were riding high after finding out they had clinched a playoff spot midway through the game the Boston Bruins take back to the ice today to face off with the Winnipeg Jets. The Bruins will look to Jarome Iginla and David Krejci to provide the offense to the third best scoring team in the NHL.

4/9/14 - In order to beat a good team like the Boston Bruins you either have to play your best or get a little lucky. The Minnesota Wild were the latter of these two as they were able to score the game tying goal with a minute left in the third period and went on to earn the win in a shootout with Mikko Koivu scoring the lone goal.

4/8/14 - Tonight the Beasts of the East, the Boston Bruins play the Minnesota Wild with only four games remaining until the Stanley Cup Playoffs begin next week. The Wild have unassumingly become one of the better teams in the West earning 94 points and a likely playoff berth but will need to play their best to beat Boston tonight.

4/7/14 - When the Boston Bruins took the ice on Saturday they knew what was on the line with a win over the Philadelphia Flyers, to clinch the top seed in the Eastern Conference and home ice for the entire Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Bruins did just that by taking it to the Flyers overpowering them 5-2 in the game to secure the #1 seed. They will now play the Minnesota Wild on the 8th as they finish out the regular season.

4/4/14 - The Boston Bruins played the Toronto Maple Leafs last night in a highly contest game and despite their furious comeback scoring two goals in the third period they were not able to earn the victory. With the game tied at 3 goals apiece the two teams headed into overtime where Nazem Kadri tallied the game winning goal with just over two minutes left before the end of the extra period.

4/3/14 - Last night the NHL leading Boston Bruins had one of their most challenging games in recent memory when they played the Detroit Red Wings. Boston was able to pick up a quick goal to start the third period to put them up by a goal but gave up two costly points in a two minute span later on in that period to lose the game. Today they travel north of the border to play the Toronto Maple Leafs who are desperately trying to lock up one of the final playoff spots in the Eastern Conference.

4/2/14 - With only a few games remaining in the regular season and having already clinched a playoff berth the Boston Bruins are resting up to make a run at the Stanley Cup after falling just short a season ago. Tonight the Bruins will travel to Detroit for an Original Six matchup with the Red Wings.

4/1/14 - The Boston Bruins are enjoying a nice few days of rest until they play again Wednesday night against the Detroit Red Wings. In that game tomorrow night the Bruins will rely on the skilled play of their winger

Patrice Bergeron who was just named the NHL’s Second Star of the Week for last week when he scored an impressive five goals.

3/31/14 - The Bruins swept the weekend, defeating the Capitals in Washington 4-2 on Saturday and then outlasting the Flyers in a shootout in Philadelphia 4-3 yesterday. Chad Johnson was in net for the victory on Saturday, giving up just two goals on 33 shots in a win that would ultimately clinch the Atlantic Division. Then yesterday, Tuuka Rask stopped a whopping 49 shots to hold on to the slimmest of victories against Philly.

3/28/14 - In their highly anticipated matchup with Chicago Blackhawks the Boston Bruins made sure to not let this game get out of hand the way it did last time Chicago came to the TD Garden. This time the Bruins were the ones able to score twice in under 20 seconds in the third to put them up 3 nil which would stand as the final score.

3/27/14 - Tonight the Boston Bruins will be out for revenge when they host the Chicago Blackhawks for the first time since Chicago won the Stanley Cup on their home ice in Game 6 of the NHL Stanley Cup Finals. The Bruins gave up two goals in the final 76 seconds of the game to lose the cup and will be certain to make sure that doesn’t happen again tonight.

3/26/14 - The Boston Bruins are still one of the best teams in the NHL because of how they continually have a young crop of talent who play like seasoned pros. One such player is defenseman Kevan Miller who has brought a great deal of toughness to the team when they have called him up this season despite it being his first in the NHL. The Bruins will now prepare for a Stanley Cup Finals rematch against the Chicago Blackhawks tomorrow night.

3/25/14 - The Boston Bruins impressive win streak finally came to an end last night at 12. The Bruins were hopeful to push the streak to 13 games last night but their rivals the Montreal Canadiens. The Habs were able to steal a game on the road in a shootout with the Bruins even after Boston was able to tie the game in the third period. The Bruins will now have the very difficult task of trying to beat the Chicago Blackhawks on the road.

3/24/14 - The Boston Bruins became the first team in the NHL to clinch a Stanley Cup Playoff berth when the beat the Colorado Avalanche to win their 11th game in a row. They followed that impressive feat by extending their winning streak to 12 games on Saturday by beating the Phoenix Coyotes in the desert 4-2.

3/21/14 - The Boston Bruins have won ten straight games but they will have a very tough time if they plan on extending it tonight. The Bruins travel to Denver to play the very good Colorado Avalanche in the NHL’s game of the night. All eyes will be on Jarome Iginla tonight to see if he can continue playing at such a high level and keep his point streak alive having scored six goals in his last five games.

3/20/14 - After picking up their very impressive 10th straight win Tuesday night against the Boston Bruins are enjoying a nice rest from the grind of the hockey season. The B’s can attribute a lot of their most recent success to Jarome Iginla who has been the catalyst for this win streak and has scored six goals in the last five games alone. Boston are off until Friday night when the very tough Colorado Avalanche on the road in Denver.

3/19/14 - Over the past couple weeks there has been no team in the NHL than the Boston Bruins who went for their tenth straight win last night against the New Jersey Devils at the Prudential Center. Even with one of the greatest goalies of all time in net, Martin Brodeur, the Devils weren’t able to slow down the surging Bruins who overpowered them on their way to a 4-1 victory.

3/18/14 - At this pace the Boston Bruins may never lose again after picking up their ninth straight victory in a 4-1 romp over the Minnesota Wild on Monday night. The Bruins Jarome Iginla continued to play out of his mind as he notched two goals for the B’s last night to now have scored six goals in just his last five games. Today the Bruins travel down to Jersey to take on a tough Devils squad.

3/17/14 - The Boston Bruins have been on an absolute tear recently and this weekend picked up their eighth straight victory by thoroughly proving their dominance on Saturday when the Carolina Hurricanes came to Boston ready to upset the B’s. However the Hurricanes left with their tails between their legs after taking a 5-1 beating in Beantown with Jarome Iginla scoring a pair of goals in the game.

3/14/14 - Winning is a habit, at least for the Boston Bruins who picked up their seventh straight victory last night against the Phoenix Coyotes. The B’s were able to convert chances early with Zdeno Chara and Jarome Iginla scoring in the first period which was all the scoring they needed as Tuukka Rask was able to stop all but one shot for a final score of 2-1. The Bruins will now return to Boston to play the Carolina Hurricanes tomorrow.

3/13/14 - The Boston Bruins came to play last night and were able to give the Montreal Canadiens a taste of their own medicine. The Bruins have not beaten the Canadiens in their last five meetings which makes this victory all that much sweeter. The B’s got out to an early lead scoring three goals in the second and never looked back en route to a 4-1 win over the Habs last night in the Bell Centre.

3/12/14 - The Boston Bruins will cross the border today to play the Montreal Canadiens tonight at the Belle Centre. The Bruins have struggled against the Habs in their last few meetings but hope to change that as they have been on a tear racking up 22 goals in their last few games.

3/11/14 - The Boston Bruins enjoyed a nice day of rest yesterday after playing, and winning, two games back to back in Florida over the weekend against the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers respectively. The B’s will have yet another day off today as they will be preparing for an Original Six showdown tomorrow night in Montreal against the Canadiens.

3/10/14 - This was one of the better weekends for the Boston Bruins as they were able to win both of their road games in Florida. On Saturday the Bruins were led by Reilly Smith who led them to victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning by scoring the only goal of the shootout in the seventh round while the following day the Bruins beat up on the Florida Panthers beating them 5-2 on Sunday.

3/6/14 - The Boston Bruins were able to enjoy a nice day of rest yesterday and will hopefully be fully prepared for today’s game with the Washington Capitals. In his last game David Krejci scored a hat trick against the Florida Panthers and will look to do the same tonight when his team takes the ice in the TD Garden.

3/5/14 - The Boston Bruins were able to win another game yesterday to give themselves 83 points on the season, good enough for first in the Atlantic Division and second most in the entire Eastern Conference. The Bruins handedly dispatched the Florida Panthers last night scoring early and often, and headed into the final period up 3 to nil before each team scored a goal in the 3rd.

3/4/14 - The Boston Bruins lead the Atlantic Division this season and last night were able to win a very tough road game against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden, winning by a score of 6-2. The Bruins were able to dominate every facet of the game and now will have the night off before hosting the Florida Panthers Wednesday night.

3/3/14 - The Bruins visited Madison Square Garden on Sunday for a matchup with conference rival New York and were able to depart with two points after a rousing 6-3 win. J.T. Miller started the scoring for the Rangers, but the bruins would score three unanswered with goals by Jarome Iginla, Dougie Hamilton, and Carl Soderberg. Brad Richards would add another goal before the end of the second, but Gregory Campbell scored twice in the third to give the Bruins an insurmountable lead. Ryan McDonagh and Milan Lucic would add goals to cap the scoring at 6-3.

2/25/14 – Following the Bruins return to TD Garden, the Bruins’ three biggest games based on average ticket prices are: Boston Bruins vs. Chicago Blackhawks (avg. $256), Boston Bruins vs. Philadelphia Flyers (avg. $250), and Boston Bruins vs. Carolina Hurricanes (avg. $230). The defending champs will visit Boston Mar 27 in an East vs. West showdown; the last time the two teams met, the Blackhawks got the win in a 3-2 SO. The Bruins will play 17 games in March, and will follow up the Original Six meeting with a four game road trip. The B’s enter the final stretch (25 games) with a seven-point lead in the Atlantic Division and will likely take the division title in 2014.

2/18/14 – The Bruins have five players in Sochi - Zdeno Chara, Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci, Tuukka Rask and Loui Eriksson. Before the break, Boston finished 8-1-2 in the last 11 games, including a 7-2 drowning of the Ottawa Senators. The Bruins resume play Feb 26 in Buffalo before returning to Boston Mar 1 against the Capitals. Boston Bruin tickets in the home stretch are averaging $215; the first game back after the Olympics is the most expensive as Bruins tickets are averaging $259.

2/3/14 – The Bruins are anxiously awaiting the Canucks arrival in Boston as the two 2011 Stanley Cup Final opponents look to renew their rivalry. With both team’s rosters made up of members from the 2011 squads, and Vancouver defeating Boston in their last two meetings, it’s obvious why this highly anticipated matchup is averaging $126 at TD Garden. Will the intensity of the game lead to fights, ejections, and ultimate hatred against one another? Flashback to Jan 7, 2012, the first regular-season game following the Bruins first Stanley Cup Championship in 39 years, and you’ll recall just that. Return to the Garden Saturday when the Sens take the ice against the Bruins for a pricier $233 average, $125 get-in.

1/29/14 – The current Atlantic Division leaders have won four straight including a convincing win over the Panthers last night. With four of their next five games at home, Bruins fans will get the chance to see forward Chris Kelly back on the ice after missing 22 games with a broken right fibula. Get-in the door for about $30 during the upcoming home stretch. The average price of Boston Bruins tickets continues to go down, falling 21% since the start of the season and 17% since the start of 2014.

2012-2013 Season

2/25/13 - Boston completed an impressive sweep of Sidney Crosby's Pittsburgh Penguins in the Eastern Conference Finals on Friday night and advances to play the winner of the Blackhawks/Kings series in the Stanley Cup Finals. The Bruins will have home-ice advantage at TD Garden if it's LA, but not Chicago. Boston Bruins 2013-2014 Season

After finishing the 2012-13 season just two wins away from winning their second Stanley Cup in three years, the Bruins look to return to the Stanley Cup Finals again in 2014. After trading promising, but frustrating centre Tyler Seguin this offseason, the Bruins acquired 6-time NHL All-Star Jerome Iginla. Average price for a game at TD Garden this coming season is now $223. The Bruins will look for revenge against the Chicago Blackhawks at home on 3/27 in their most expensive game of the season, averaging $307.

2012-2013 Season

With a shortened season, it becomes important for a team to get out of the blocks fast, and the Boston Bruins have done just that, moving to the top of the Northeast Division. The Bruins, who recently traded former Conn Smythe and Vezina Trophy winner Tim Thomas to the New York Islanders, have not missed his presence in the net one bit, as Tuukka Rask has stepped up as the team's lead goaltender. Rask currently is among the NHL's top ten in goals-against average and just outside the top ten in save percentage. All of this contributes to a penalty-kill that is tops in the league, and an overall goals-against average that is also top ten leaguewide, with defenseman Zdeno Chara, who is also the team's workhorse with the greatest average time per game on the ice. On the offensive side of the ice, center David Krejci leads the way with 10 points (3 goals, 7 assists), while winger Brad Marchand has the team lead in goals scored. So far the Bruins have enjoyed success both at home at the TD Garden as well as on the road; it remains to be seen if they can keep up the hot pace.

Boston Bruins tickets at TD Garden in Boston average $152, with cheap Bruins tickets from $48 in the Balcony 300s. Bruins hockey tickets for away games average 21% less per ticket, and the Bruins continue to be one of the ten most demanded NHL tickets on the road. In March, the Boston Bruins schedule features home games versus the Montreal Canadiens (3/3, 3/27), Toronto Maple Leafs (3/7, 3/25), Philadelphia Flyers (3/9) and Washington Capitals (3/16).
