Pittsburgh Steelers 2014 News and Updates

4/17/14 - Pittsburgh's new O-line coach and NFL-great, Mike Munchak, will try and whip his current linemen—all returning starters—back into shape by the time preseason kicks in. The Pittsburgh Steelers will open up exhibition play against the New York Giants during Week 1 and return home to host the Buffalo Bills in Week 2. They'll be on the road to take on the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3, and will close Week 4 at home opposite the Carolina Panthers on Aug 28. This will be the 12th consecutive year that the two faceoff in a preseason finale; Steelers tickets start at just $31 to get into this time-honored game.

2/11/14 – Pittsburgh’s defense is in dire need of some bluster in 2014 and are hoping recent hire (and former Steeler) Joey Porter (Colorado State) will give the team just that as a defensive assistant. Following back-to-back 8-8 seasons, the Pittsburgh Steelers have their sites on the postseason after a two year hiatus. A strong run at the end of 2013, has Steelers fans optimistic about their team especially given their relatively “easy” schedule. Can the defense come together as the offense had in the second half of the season last year?

12/23/13 - The Pittsburgh Steelers have kept playoff hopes alive, after holding off the Green Bay Packers in Sunday's 38-31 nail-biting victory. The win came off the back of Troy Polamalu, who forced a fumble to grant Le’Veon Bell the game-winning score with less than two minutes left, while the Steel Curtain stymied Green Bay's final drive. Though playoffs are within reach, the long shots must defeat the Cleveland Browns in Week 17, and hope that the Dolphins, Ravens and Chargers lose their respective games. Pittsburgh Steelers tickets are $31 to start and just $139 on average for their must-win matchup this Sunday.

12/16/13 - The Steelers tripped up division leaders, the Cincinnati Bengals, and kept their slight wildcard chances alive with a crucial 30-20 victory yesterday at Heinz Field. Antonio Brown was the player of the day, catching a TD pass and returning a punt for a score, which propelled the Steelers to a 24-point lead by halftime. Heading into Week 16, Pittsburgh must defeat the Green Bay Packers in order to shove off the Baltimore Ravens for the AFC wildcard hunt. Pittsburgh Steelers tickets are $197 on average for Sunday—or get in for $19 to see Ben Roethlisberger take on a healthy Aaron Rodgers at Lambeau Field.

12/9/13- The Pittsburgh Steelers suffered a disappointing 34-28 loss to the visiting Miami Dolphins on Sunday. In the last seconds of the game, the Steelers tried a wild final play featuring a number of laterals that drove Antonio Brown into the end zone, but the TD was ultimately called back as Brown was ruled out of bounds dooming them to defeat. Though Ben Roethlisberger is on his way to a career-best season, after breaking Terry Bradshaw’s franchise record for most TDs, Mike Tomlin and company are nearly eclipsed in the playoff run. Pittsburgh Steelers tickets are only $18 to get into Heinz Field when they are pitted against the Cincinnati Bengals this Sunday.

12/2/13 - The Pittsburgh Steelers lost to the Baltimore Raven’s in Thanksgiving’s hard-fought game, falling short 20-22. Big Ben played fearlessly, hitting weapon Le’Veon Bell and four other receivers, though their necessary 2-point conversion with one minute left in the fourth quarter slipped right through Emmanuel Sanders’ hands, while an unsuccessful on-side kick by Shaun Suisham allowed the Ravens to run away victorious. Stay tuned: HC Mike Tomlin is in some hot water and will most likely be hit with a heavy fine after interfering with Jacoby Jones’ sideline run down the field on Thursday, intentional or not. Pittsburgh Steelers tickets are $144 on average when they travel to Miami to face the Dolphins.

11/26/13 - Steelers fans have a lot to feel good about: Pittsburgh has achieved their 3rd straight win and are officially in the AFC wildcard hunt. Ben Roethlisberger, with the help of his offensive line (who did not allow their QB to be sacked), led his team to 27-11 over the Cleveland Browns. The notorious Steelers defense forced 4 turnovers and took advantage of the Browns' troublesome QB situation. Next week, Pittsburgh will try to sweep the Baltimore Ravens for the first time since '08 on Thanksgiving Day. Pittsburgh Steelers tickets for the Turkey Day showdown are just $29 to get in!

11/18/13 - The Pittsburgh Steelers are on track to turn around their losing season with yesterday’s convincing defeat of the Detroit Lions, 37-27. Although Big Ben is palpably dissatisfied with the franchise, Roethlisberger played a great game, throwing 367 yards and 4 TDs. The Steel Curtain effectively shut down Matt Stafford and Calvin Johnson in the second half of the game, allowing Roethlisberger’s 2 scoring passes with 5 minutes left in the 4th for the come-from-behind victory. In Week 12, Pittsburgh will travel to Ohio to meet the Cleveland Browns: tickets are $93 on average.

11/11/13 - The Steelers came away victorious Sunday morning, in a 23-10 rout of the Buffalo Bills at Heinz Field. Pittsburgh’s defense cleaned up and carried the team to 3-6 on the season, despite the highly anticipated comeback of Bill’s QB EJ Manuel, shutting down the opposition to 95 yards rushing and sacking Manuel three times. Roethlisberger finished with 204 yards and a touchdown, while Le’Veon Bell had 96 yards and one TD, making up for the team's embarrassing loss to the Patriots last week. The Steelers will host the Detroit Lions next Sunday, and tickets are moderately priced at $156 on average.

11/4/13 - In a high scoring game, the Steelers were crushed by the New England Patriots 31-55, the most points Pittsburgh has ever allowed in franchise history. Ben Roethlisberger also had a 400-yard passing day, but at 28 for 48 passes, it was not enough to rally for a win, especially when the less-than-dynamic Pittsburgh defense all but collapsed against Tom Brady and his targets. New England routed the Steelers defense, which allowed Brady to accrue 432 passing yards, and granted three Pats receivers over 100 yards each. The Steelers are now 2-6 as they head into Week 10 with a game against the Buffalo Bills next Sunday. Pittsburgh Steelers tickets are $28 to get in, and are $215 on average.

10/28/13 - The Pittsburgh Steelers were unable to clamp down on Terrelle Pryor and the Oakland Raiders, ultimately losing 18-21 on Sunday. Big Ben was able to complete 29 of 45 throws for 275 yards despite heavy pressure from the Raiders defense, but it was all in vain. Kicker Shaun Suisham missed two critical short field goals, and Roethlisberger was sacked five times and forced two turnovers in the second half. After falling behind early in the game, allowing Pryor to score the longest rushing touchdown in NFL history (93 yards), the Steelers made a rousing 15-point fourth quarter comeback, but the momentum fell short, leaving Pittsburgh at 2-5 on the season. The Steelers will be on the road to play worthy opponents, the New England Patriots in Week 9 at Gillette Stadium. Pittsburgh Steelers tickets are the most expensive of the week, at a lofty $468 on average and $135 at the lowest.

10/21/13 - The Pittsburgh Steelers defended their home field and squeaked by the Baltimore Ravens to claim Sunday’s victory, 19-16, and push the Ravens under the .500 mark. The win came from a momentous performance by Shaun Suisham and his game-deciding 42-yard field goal. Ben Roethlisberger was 17 of 23 for 160 yards, their running game was on point, outgaining the Ravens nearly 83 yards rushing, as rookie Le’Veon Bell ran for a season high 93 yards on 19 carries. Pittsburgh has successfully conducted two games, and will look to their third straight win to dig themselves out of their early season hole and be serious contenders in the AFC North. The Black and Gold will be opposite the Silver and Black, in Week 8 to face the Oakland Raiders at O.CO Colisseum in California. Pittsburgh Steelers tickets are averaging $174 on the road.

10/14/13 - Back from their bye, the Pittsburgh Steelers have finally surmounted their dreaded winless record, coming out on top in a crucial 19-6 victory over the New York Jets. Head coach Mike Tomlin, dissatisfied with the boys in black and yellow, took all the players’ games out of the locker room, a chastising move that proved useful. Pittsburgh was the only team in the NFL to have not forced a turnover coming into Week 6, but the Steelers made it happen with 2 picks on Geno Smith. Big Ben Roethlisberger threw a massive 55 yard touchdown pass to Emmanuel Sanders, his longest touchdown pass of the season, and the one they would need to secure the franchise’s 600th win, a play he was able to make with the help of his offensive line, who greatly improved on QB protection. A reinvigorated and freshly disciplined Pittsburgh will next host the Baltimore Ravens, hungry for a win post-loss to Green Bay. Pittsburgh Steelers tickets start at $40 and average $153.

10/8/13 - The Pittsburgh Steelers will be coming out of their bye week to play the New York Jets hot off their win over the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night. The 0-4 Steelers have a chance to improve their standings when veteran Big Ben goes head to head against rookie quarterback Geno Smith. With newly acquired left tackle Levi Brown from the Arizona Cardinals in tow, the Steelers may yet breathe new life as they head on the road to play the Jets in Week 6. Pittsburgh Steelers tickets on the road this week are $48 to get in and average $201.

9/30/13 - The Steelers are 0-4 for the first time since 1968, having lost to the Minnesota Vikings overseas in London on Sunday. Both teams were desperately looking to break their losing streak across the pond, and the Steelers reached a new low in front of a sold out crowd at Wembley Stadium, drowning in the Viking’s “purple rain.” Pittsburgh can’t seem to provide enough coverage for their quarterback, who was sacked five times on Sunday, and their defense was left in the dust by running back Adrian Peterson. Roethlisberger and company are on their bye week, and will be on the road again to play the New York Jets on October 13 in Week 6, hopefully with newly rejuvenated play. The average price for Steelers tickets has seen a 19% decrease since the beginning of the season falling from $233 to $188.

9/24/13 - Despite their Superbowl pedigree, the Steelers are now 0-3 coming into Week 4, and are in desperate for a win. Pittsburgh will gain a much needed offensive threat in rookie running back Le’Veon Bell, who was intended to start before a preseason injury. Set to play against the Minnesota Vikings, who are also short of wins this season, Roethlisberger will fight against accumulating more turn overs, and try to pull his team out of an uncharacteristic slump. Get into this game across the pond, at Wembley Stadium in London, for $72.

Pittsburgh Steelers 2014 Season

2013 Season

Last season, the Pittsburgh Steelers struggled to just their fourth third-place finish since the turn of the century (other seasons being 2003, 2006, and 2009, making for an intriguing three year cycle). Steeler fans have to be hoping the pattern repeats itself again in 2013, as each season following a third place finish saw the Steelers atop the AFC’s North Division – with 2010’s squad advancing to the Super Bowl, where they lost to the Green Bay Packers.

Big Ben Roethlisberger is feeling good after an offseason which saw him undergo knee surgery; he threw strongly during the Steelers’ last day of OTAs. While leading receiver Mike Wallace decamped for sunnier climes in Miami, longtime star Plaxico Burress returns to Steeltown, joining fellow tight end Heath Miller as prime targets; while running backs Jonathan Dwyer and Isaac Redman will have some company in training camp in the presence of former Michigan State standout Le’Veon Bell, a second round selection in this spring’s draft

However as always, it’s the defense, the vaunted Steel Curtain, where Pittsburgh remains strongest – first overall in fewest passing yards allowed per game, second leaguewide in fewest rushing yards allowed per game. The Steelers achieved this with minimal input from safety Troy Polamalu, who spent much of 2012 injured, only playing in seven of 16 games. The Steel Curtain also features linebackers Lawrence Timmons (who had 6.0 sacks, and led the team in interceptions with three) and Larry Foote.

All in all, Terrible Towels should be waving at Heinz Field throughout 2013! What games on the Pittsburgh Steelers schedule are Steeler Nation most excited about this season? Two of the most anticipated Steelers games will feature division rivals, the Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens. Both the Bengals and Ravens represented the AFC North in the NFL Playoffs last season, with Baltimore winning the Super Bowl. Ravens vs. Steelers tickets on October 20th start at $122 in the end zone and reach $1,015 for seats between the 40 and 50-yard lines on the Steelers sideline. Pittsburgh football fans wanting to see a great game at a lower price will find cheap Steelers tickets when the Bengals come to town in December. Although a key game, the get-in price for Bengals vs. Steelers ticket is $80, 34% less than Ravens vs. Steelers.
