Cleveland Browns 2014 News and Updates

2/13/14 – The Browns, behind Brian Hoyer, seemed to be on their way to their first winning season since 2007 until the QB tore his ACL in Week 5. Following his exit, the Browns won just one game of the next eleven and finished the season a dismal 4-12. Mike Pettine (Buffalo) was hired on as the new Cleveland Browns head coach this offseason, and 19 days later Ray Farmer as GM. Six of the Bills former assistants will join Pettine in Cleveland, including Jim O’Neil who will take over as the Brown’s defensive coordinator. Can the new coaching staff lead this Browns’ team to their second playoff since the franchise returned to Cleveland in 1999?

2013 Season

12/17/13 - The Cleveland Browns nearly extinguished the Chicago Bear’s playoff dreams, but failed to clamp down on their fourth quarter rally and ultimately fell, 38-31, Sunday morning. Jason Campbell’s 43-yard TD pass to trusty Josh Gordon brought the Browns within 7 points with a minute left on the clock, but Cleveland was unable to spoil Jay Cutler’s return to the field when they were penalized for illegal formation in the finals seconds. Looking forward, Cleveland Browns tickets are $129 on average and $24 to get in and see if they can send the New York Jets reeling.

12/10/13 - The Cleveland Browns suffered their fourth straight hard-fought loss when they visited the New England Patriots on Sunday (26-27). The Browns led 19-3 in the third quarter when Jason Campbell heaved an 80-yd TD pass to Josh Gordon, who set an NFL record of 774 receiving yards in four straight games. But late in the game, the team fell prey to another unbelievable Tom Brady comeback performance which, benefitted by a flagrantly erroneous pass interference call, scooted the Pats past Cleveland. Next week, the Browns face stiff competition when they host the Chicago Bears hot off the heels of their huge Monday Night Football victory. Cleveland Browns tickets are the cheapest of the week, at a mere $47 on average.

12/3/13 - The Cleveland Browns lost to the resurgent Jacksonville Jaguars, 32-28, on Sunday in Ohio. Even though Josh Gordon achieved a remarkable second straight game with 200 receiving yards, the Browns let the lead slip in the last couple seconds, walking away stunned by defeat. Bad news for the Browns: Brandon Weeden joins Jason Campbell as their second quarterback sidelined with a concussion, compelling the Browns to sign free-agent Caleb Hanie. Hopefully the new QB has what it takes to carry the Browns past the New England Patriots this Sunday! Cleveland Browns tickets average a lofty $262 this week.

11/26/13 - The Cleveland Browns have slipped to 4-7 on the season after losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday (27-11). Though they can kiss their playoff hopes goodbye, the Browns have shown extraordinary resilience this season, playing valiantly against worthy opponents despite major fallout at the QB position. Jason Campbell has been a brilliant filling in for the Browns, but he was taken out by a questionable shot to the head on Sunday, and was subsequently replaced by Brandon Weeden. Another bright stop was Josh Gordon, who killed Cleveland’s franchise record for receiving yards, racking up 237 on 14 catches. The Browns will refuse to be silenced as they have all year, and continue to thwart teams with postseason intentions…but first come the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday. Cleveland Browns tickets are a steal, at just $12 to get in and $42 on average—the lowest of the week!

11/19/13- The Cleveland Browns fell to in-state rivals, the Cincinnati Bengals, on Sunday 20-41. Despite leading in the first quarter, the Browns crumbled in the second, allowing Cincinnati to put up their highest scoring quarter in franchise history (31). After accruing the huge deficit, the Browns were forced to make one-dimensional plays on Sunday: Jason Campbell threw 56 times, with minimal contribution elsewhere. The Browns will head home and host the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 12 with a shot to advance their season. Cleveland Browns tickets are the second cheapest of the week, at $93.

11/12/13 - The Cleveland Browns are in contention for leadership in the AFC North, tied neck-and-neck with the Baltimore Ravens for second place. The race will intensify this Sunday when Cleveland comes out of the bye to take on the Bengals, with hopes of narrowing the 1.5 game lead Cincinnati holds over the division. With admirable QB Jason Campbell at the helm, the Browns are confident in their ability to overcome a struggling Andy Dalton and topple their next opponent. Fans won’t want to miss out on this important AFC game! Cleveland tickets are $148 on average, and $23 to get in.

11/5/13 - The Cleveland Browns broke their 11-game losing streak against the Baltimore Ravens, when they came out on top Sunday, 24-18. Backup QB answer Jason Campbell had a great game, throwing three touchdowns and 262 yards, connecting twice with Davone Bess. The Browns defense played a stellar game, sacking Joe Flacco five times and shutting down the Ravens run game to just 55 yards on 21 attempts. Campbell sustained a minor bruised rib injury in the first quarter, while receiver Greg Little (seven catches for 122 yards on the day) sprained his right shoulder, but they will have time to recover after the win. The Browns are in good standing heading into their bye, at 4-5 on the season and second in the AFC North. They will return in Week 11 pitted against the Cincinnati Bengals.

10/29/13 - The Cleveland Browns were ousted by the (still perfect) Kansas City Chiefs, losing 17-23 on Sunday. Though they lost (for the third time in a row), in his first start, backup QB Jason Campbell was impressive. His promising performance may be enough to keep the Browns afloat, as he finished 22 of 36 for 293 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Browns will try to snap out of their losing record when next host division opponents, the Baltimore Ravens, fresh off their bye. Cleveland Browns tickets have the second lowest average price of Week 9, at $70.

10/22/13 - The Cleveland Browns have fallen to 3-4 on the season following their loss to the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. Its been a roller coaster season for the Browns with their quarterback woes, but after Brandon Weeden’s dreadful Sunday performance, starting with a 1.7 QB rating in the first quarter and surmounting in 17 of 42 for 149 yards, one TD and one interception, the Browns are looking to make some major changes. Cleveland is considering benching the current starting QB and there is talk of trading wide receiver Josh Gordon, their strongest player this season, for a "high pick and player". Running backs McGahee and Wittaker were ineffective on Sunday, while Browns receivers (Gordon, Bess, Little) dropped the ball like it was a hot potato time after time. Cleveland will try to snap out of their two game losing streak against the only undefeated team left in the league, the Kansas City Chiefs. Is it possible? They did defeat the Chiefs (albeit a much different team) 30-7 in Week 12 of last season. Cleveland Browns tickets are moderately priced at $110 on average at Arrowhead Stadium.

10/16/13 - With wonder boy Brian Hoyer out, the Cleveland Browns lost to the Detroit Lions, 17-31. Cleveland was unable to score in the second half, with weak play by linebackers Craig Robertson and D’Qwell Jackson; quarterback Brandon Wheeden made matters worse with a horrendous backhand pass late in the game. Initial starting QB Wheeden, who is 0-3 as a starter this year, will in fact keep his position and is heavily supported by the coaching staff. This has come as a surprise to many, amid talk of veteran QB Jason Campbell being a worthy alternative and Wheeden's winning back of the starting position only due to injury of franchise hopeful Brian Hoyer. In Week 7, the Browns will be on the road to face the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field Sunday. Tickets are high for this matchup, at $206 on average.

10/8/13 - The Cleveland Browns continue their roller coaster season: winning Thursday night’s game against the Buffalo Bills, but losing Brian Hoyer to a partially torn ACL en route to victory. The backup quarterback and fan-favorite, was starting his third straight game and looked promising, finally getting comfortable with wide receiver Josh Gordon and tight end Jordan Cameron, before going down in the first quarter. They will now revert back to Brandon Weeden, who was benched after a very poor 0-2 start to the season. Cleveland Browns tickets are $140 on average, and $49 to get in this Sunday.

10/1/13 - Despite receiving flack for trading top player Trent Richardson, the prospering Cleveland Browns seem to be doing something right, as the team secured a second consecutive win, ousting the Cincinnati Bengals 17-6 on Sunday. The Browns successfully thwarted their AFC North rivals, and both Ohio teams are now tied for first place in their division. Citizens of Cleveland were certainly feeling the rush on Sunday, as their baseball team the Cleveland Indians also won that day, to secure the AL Wild Card spot. The Cleveland Browns are on a short week, and will be playing the 2-2 Buffalo Bills this Thursday, October 3, starting Brian Hoyer for the third time. Cleveland Browns tickets at FirstEnergy Stadium start at $32, and average $86.

9/25/13 - The Cleveland Browns avoided an 0-3 record when they defeated the Minnesota Vikings 31-27 with an upset victory that everyone is talking about, especially after trading young talented running back Trent Richardson. Rookie quarterback Brian Hoyer started in last Sunday’s game for Cleveland, and although his status is week-to-week, head coach Rob Chudzinski says he will start again in Week 4 over Brandon Weeden. The Browns are looking for their second consecutive win when they play the Cincinnati Bengals at Cleveland this coming Sunday.

Cleveland Browns 2014 Season

2013 Season

Cleveland has been in the Dawg Pound, literally, over the past 9 seasons without the Browns making it to the NFL Playoffs. Although the team finished 4th in the NFC North last season with a 5-11 record, the addition of first-round draft picks QB Brandon Weeden and RB Trent Richardson have the team looking forward to its future and the 2013 NFL season. Weeden, who broke several passing records at Oklahoma State, showed promise in his rookie season, even throwing for more yards than the Washington Redskins Robert Griffin III and Seattle Seahawks Russell Wilson. He did throw fewer TDs, however, and more interceptions; unlike RG3 and Wilson (and the Indianapolis Colts Andrew Luck), he didn't lead his team to the postseason.

That could change. Second-year running back Trent Richardson, who finished 22nd in the League as a rookie last season, should get more carries and open up the passing lanes desperately needed by Weeden and his top targets, wide receivers Greg Little and Josh Gordon. Plus, the young offense will be under the guidance of first-year head coach Rob Chudzinski, who turned the Carolina Panthers into a top 10 offense while the team's offensive coordinator. Josh Cribbs continues to be a special teams threat too, always one of the best kick returners in the NFL every year.

On defense, the Cleveland Browns finished 10th in the League in yards per game last season, and 14th in points. No. 6 draft pick Barkevious Mingo, one of the top defensive draft picks, will help at the outside linebacker position. At LSU last year, he had 38 tackles and 4.5 sacks, good enough to make second-team All-SEC.

Browns fans will pack FirstEnergy Stadium (formerly Cleveland Browns Stadium) when the 2013 season kicks off, especially when AFC North rivals the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers come to town. Although these are three of the most anticipated games on the Browns schedule, all have tickets available under $40 — Bengals vs. Browns tickets as low as $21, followed by Ravens vs. Browns tickets at $26 and Steelers vs. Browns tickets at $36. Die-hard Cleveland Browns fans wanting to sit in the Dawg Pound will pay $5-$10 more per ticket in the upper level, depending on the game and section. Two other highlights on the Browns 2013 schedule include games with the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears. Even when Chicago visits Cleveland in December, Ohio football fans will find cheap Browns tickets from $32.
