6/26/15 - The West Virginia Mountaineers football team has always held a strong offense. It has never been a problem for them, and this year does not look to be an exception. It is their defense that has fans worried. For the past three years, the Mountaineers have intended to fix their defense problems, but each year, they rank below average defensively. Although they fall on the low end of the spectrum for defense, they actually rank in sixth place among the Big 12, which is where it matters most. While it would be hugely beneficial to put together a defensive team that could hold their opponents down a little better, the Mountaineers have managed in the past, and they very well could hold their own again this year.
10/31/14 - Although your Mountaineers lost an absolute heartbreaker at home against TCU on Saturday, they remain in the thick of the Big 12 title hunt. 2/4/14 - The West Virginia Mountaineers ended last year’s roller coaster season with a 4-8 record (2-7 Big 12), characterized as a team struggling to replace spectacular talents Geno Smith, Stedman Bailey and Tavon Austin. The offense never recovered and the defense plummeted: WVU lost their final two games, which cost them a bowl appearance. The quarterback situation was looking brighter, though recently suffered a major setback: Ford Childress was suspended by head coach Dana Holgorsen for unknown reasons and Clint Trinkett is still rehabbing a torn labrum. The most notable Mountaineer to enter this year’s NFL Draft is RB Charles Sims, top pick from WVU and one of the top RB prospects in the nation. There are currently 14 commits, headed by four-star players QB William Crest, athlete Dravon Henry (No.11 athlete in the nation and a possible safety fit), RB Donte Thomas-Williams, WR Jacob McCrary and WR Lamar Parker. Since moving to the Big XII conference for the 2012 season, the West Virginia Mountaineers have struggled to find the same levels of success they had while a longtime member of the Big East Conference. Head coach Dana Holgorsen took over the Mountaineers in the team’s last season in the Big East and led them to a 10-3 record and a shocking, blowout Orange Bowl win over Clemson, the last major bowl game the team has played. 2014 will see five of WVU’s six home games be played against conference opponents, including Oklahoma, Baylor, Texas Christian and Kansas State.
