Ohio State Buckeyes Football News 2014 News and Updates

2/4/14 - The Ohio State Buckeyes had a successful run last season, finishing with a second straight flawless year in the Big Ten (8-0) under second-year coach Urban Meyer. Will he score this powerhouse’s third consecutive undefeated year? The Buckeyes ultimately lost to Michigan State in the Big Ten Championship game, but won a trip to the Orange Bowl, also losing, to Clemson which landed them at #10 at the end of the season with a 12-2 record. The Buckeyes will return their starting QB Braxton Miller and an experienced front seven, but they will lose four senior starters on the O-Line. With over a dozen draft-eligible players, OSU said goodbye to a host of talent (something this school is used to by now): NFL hopefuls include RB Carlos Hyde, LB Ryan Shazier and OT Jack Mewhort (1st/2nd round projections), RB Jordan Hall, WR Corey Brown, OGs Andrew Norwell an Marcus Hall, C Corey Linsley, FS CJ Barnett and SS Christian Bryant. Even with the leftovers, the Buckeyes indubitably boast a strong team: 2014’s recruiting class has 22 commitments, comprised of 15 4-star players, highlighted by 5-star IL Raekwon McMillan. A day before National Signing Day commences, experts rank OSU as the No. 2 class in the nation.

2013 Season

11/25/13 – The Buckeyes will at least share a second straight Leaders Division title with a win over Indiana this past weekend. The victory clinched the school’s first berth in the Big Ten Football Championship as Ohio State has the head-to-head over Wisconsin. Well-deserved for the 11-0 team who has now won 23 straight, the fifth-longest winning streak in conference history and a school record. The program who has never lost under Coach Meyer will face the nation’s top defense in Michigan State for the Conference title next weekend.

10/31/13 – The Buckeyes have outscored their opponents 378-153 in 2013, and remain undefeated with four games left this season. Combined with last season, THE Ohio State is 20-0. Now, No. 4 in the BCS Standings and favorites to with the Big Ten, their toughest game left on the Ohio State Buckeyes schedule is against hated rival, Michigan Wolverines, on the road. Deemed ineligible to participate in both the Big Ten Championship game and a Bowl game last year, Ohio State was the first bowl eligible team this season after beating Northwestern and moving to 6-0. If the Buckeyes can stay on pace, they’ll be in Pasadena this January – either competing in the “Granddaddy of Them All” Rose Bowl game or playing for a National Championship title.

Ohio State Buckeyes Football

Ohio State Buckeyes football fans weren't exactly sure what to expect last season from former Florida Gators Football head coach (and Ohio native) Urban Meyer when he took over. Because of sanctions levied against the Buckeyes by the NCAA in the fallout over "Tattoo-gate," which sent then-starting quarterback Terrelle Pryor to the NFL; and ultimately cost fan-favorite head coach Jim Tressel his position, the Bucks essentially had nothing to play for last year except Buckeye pride. Well, that pride, and the guidance of Meyer, led to a stunning accomplishment — the Scarlet and Gray shocked the college football world by running the table and posting a perfect 12-0 record, including a solid victory over That School Up North.

With that, and the expiration of the one-year bowl ban, OSU have once again put themselves in the midst of BCS National Championship discussions. Leading the Buckeyes is junior quarterback and Heisman Trophy candidate Braxton Miller, who is a fearless runner but has also developed an arm to move the ball downfield. In the Buckeye backfield is workhorse senior Carlos Hyde, another Heisman possibility who rambled for over 1,600 yards last season. Miller will also be looking forward to pitching the ball downfield to senior wideout Corey "Philly" Brown, and junior Devin Smith.

As for the defense, there are holes to fill as always, but with the Buckeyes — and defensive coordinator Luke Fickell, who succeeded Tressel as one-year interim head coach two years ago — it's not a matter of rebuilding as much as it is reloading. This young, junior-laden unit, has been reloaded almost from scratch and will be tested early and often; a pair of names to look out for are corner Bradley Roby and linebacker Curtis Grant. Finally, senior kicker Drew Basil is back on hand when the Bucks need a key kick. All in all, expect a lot of fun — and a lot of "Buckeye Battle Cry" and "Hang On Sloopy" — in the ol' Horseshoe in 2013.

In addition to Big Ten games with the Indiana Hoosiers, Iowa Hawkeyes, Penn State Nittany Lions, and Wisconsin Badgers, the 2013 Buckeyes football schedule features early non-conference games versus the Buffalo Bulls, San Diego State Aztecs, and Florida A&M Rattlers. Cheap Buckeyes football tickets for each of the non-conference games start at under $100. Badgers vs. Buckeyes tickets on September 28th have the most expensive get-in price at $142, followed by Penn State vs. Ohio State tickets at $127. The cheapest Buckeyes Big Ten home football game will be played November 23rd versus Indiana, with Hoosiers vs. Buckeyes football tickets from $103 — 30% less per ticket than the Badgers vs. Buckeyes game in September. Ohio State's annual rivalry game with the Michigan Wolverines will be in Ann Arbor this season. Wolverines vs. Buckeyes tickets start at $197 — that's $55 more per ticket than the lowest-priced Buckeyes home game ticket in 2013.
