Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football 2014 News and Updates

8/14/14 - Since Brian Kelly came over from the University of Cincinnati after the 2009 college season, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have received bowl-game invitations in each of Kelly’s four seasons as head coach of the Irish, including a berth in the 2013 BCS championship game, after a 2012 regular season that saw the Irish earn their first #1 ranking in the polls in several years. For 2014, quarterback Everett Golson is back at the controls; in Golson’s only season on the field, he led the Irish to an undefeated season, and hopes he can catch lightning in a bottle again. Key clashes in 2014 include home games with Michigan and Stanford, the annual road tilt with Southern California, and neutral-site games against Navy and Purdue.

7/30/14 – Notre Dame Football will open fall camp in just one week, as the team gears up to reveal their brand new all-turf field. Fighting Irish fans will also witness the return of starting quarterback, Everett Golson, who unexpectedly missed last year due to academic reasons. In 2012, Golson and coach Brian Kelly took ND to the national championship game, can they do so again in his big return year? Buy Notre Dame Football tickets and get the team to consecutive sellout No. 238 on Aug. 30! Rice Owls Football will take on the Fighting Irish in South Bend, and tickets are available for $77 to start.

7/9/14 – The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are building quite an impressive recruiting class for the 2015 year. With the recent commitment of four-star wide receiver, Miles Boykin, things just keep getting better and better. Brian Kelly and crew are down one gifted set of hands after Will Mahone’s suspension status surfaced. The wide receiver is not enrolled at the school, nor is he permitted to return until the three felony charges accrued in his sophomore year are resolved. See your Shamrock Soldiers in action with Notre Dame Fighting Irish tickets today!

6/20/14 – Each year since Brian Kelly was hired as head coach (December 2009), Notre Dame Fighting Irish football has finished with a top 20 recruiting class, scoring a top 10 ranking three times. This season, the Irish are at No.10 in 2015 national team rankings. Still, Notre Dame has their eye on more touted talent, as the class only boasts four 4-star recruits at this point in the offseason. Scouts are keeping their eyes on the following top 60 prospects: CB Iman Marshall, OL Justin Hilliard, DE Jashon Cornell, and RBs Jacques Patrick and Soso Jamabo. Get your Notre Dame Fighting Irish tickets now and see if Coach Kelly can score another all-star recruiting class with these stellar players!

5/27/14 – Can you guess the most expensive game on the 2014 Notre Dame football schedule? Some may have guessed a Fighting Irish vs. Purdue Boilermakers game at Lucas Oil Stadium to demand the highest prices; but at $338, the September 13 battle in Indianapolis is second to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs. Michigan Wolverines rivalry game in South Bend by an average $161! Here’s a history fact for you: Michigan and Notre Dame rank No.2 and No.1 in winning percentage and No.1 and No.3 in all time wins. The two storied programs will meet again in 2014 (will not play in 2015 and 2017) and the cheapest Notre Dame Fighting Irish ticket for the game is $245. 100 days before the start of the college football season, the Fighting Irish had the fifth most expensive ticket in the NCAA; the cheapest game this season is the opener at Notre Dame Stadium against the Rice Owls (avg. $196).

5/8/14 - Notre Dame Fighting Irish head coach Chip Kelly has a bit of a dilemma facing himself as he prepares for the 2014 Irish season – that of who will be his starting quarterback. While Everett Golson, who is making a comeback after being suspended academically for a year, had a solid outing in the recent Blue-Gold Game (13 completions in 24 attempts for 154 yards, plus a rushing touchdown), sophomore Malik Zaire nearly doubled that, throwing for 292 yards and a pair of scores. In the competition for playing time among Irish running backs, Greg Bryant distinguished himself with a long 51-yard run, tallied as part of his 101 yards rushing overall in the spring scrimmage. A non-player note: school officials have indicated that Notre Dame Stadium will be converted to an artificial surface in time for the beginning of the season.

2/4/14- After a 2013 appearance in the National Championship and near-perfect year, most people anticipated a lesser subsequent season from the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. While the Irish did have a solid season, finishing #20 on the AP and #24 on the Coaches Poll, a 9-4 record is still a step back. Notre Dame landed some big-time prospects among their 2014 No.8 recruiting class (16 4-star players) including: OL Quenton Nelson (No. 29 overall prospect), LB Nyles Morgan, WR Justin Brent and OL Alex Bars. They’ll need as much help as they can get from these recruits, after bidding farewell to Tommy Rees (among top passers in Notre Dame history), TE Troy Niklas & WR T.J. Jones on offense, and six more starters on defense: Stephon Tuitt & Prince Shembo (both top 10 sack leaders in team history), compounded by the suspension of their leading returning receiver DaVaris Daniels. Still, the return of WB Everett Golson and a promising group of recruits will definitely keep the Fighting Irish going strong in 2014.

2013 Season

10/31/13 – While Notre Dame could easily be 8-2 heading into its final two games of the season, they’ll finish against two teams with competitive programs – BYU and Stanford. In 2012, when the Fighting Irish went undefeated, both the Cougars and the Cardinal made for a close finish. BYU vs. Notre Dame tickets to attend Senior night in South Bend, start at $76. For Notre Dame to qualify for a BCS game, they’ll need to finish in the top 14 in the rankings, right now they’re at No. 25. Thus far in the season, the biggest wins for the Irish came against Pac-12 teams – then #22 Arizona State Sun Devils in the Shamrock Series, and rival USC Trojans.

Since Notre Dame played in its first BCS National Championship in 24 years last season, tickets to a game at Notre Dame Stadium have increased 48 percent. Notre Dame will play many of their rivals at home in 2013 - Michigan State Spartans vs. Notre Dame Football (avg. $374), USC Trojans vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football (avg. $559, 2.5-times the cost of last year’s matchup in Los Angeles), and Navy Midshipmen vs. Notre Dame Football (avg. $269). USC and Notre Dame have agreed to extend their classic intersectional football series through the 2023 season. Fourth year coach Brian Kelly and the Irish will play the ASU Sun Devils at Cowboys Stadium in the annual Shamrock Series. Arizona State Sun Devils Football vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football is the most expensive game on the Notre Dame schedule, averaging $1,278 per ticket. That is, on average, $567 more than last year’s BCS National Championship tickets between the Alabama Crimson Tide and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

One road game in high demand this year is Michigan vs. Notre Dame Football. The game will be played in Ann Arbor and is averaging $465, the most expensive game on the Michigan Wolverine schedule. It is looking as if the game may be the last for the two schools in a while as they are not scheduled to play again after the 2014-15 season. Beginning in 2014, Notre Dame football will play five ACC Conference members each year. As a result, new rivalries will likely emerge. Excitement is already building for next season's Notre Dame schedule that includes matchups against Clemson, Virginia Tech, and Florida State. In addition, the Fighting Irish will play Syracuse at MetLife Stadium for the off-site Shamrock series.
