Nebraska Cornhuskers Football 2014 News and Updates

7/9/14 – Not that the hoards of Nebraska Cornhusker faithful needed any confirmation, but Business Insider recently ranked the top 15 most loyal college football fanbases and it goes to show you, There (really) is No Place Like Nebraska. The University of Nebraska boasts one of the most football-rich environments you’ll find across these United States, and Memorial Stadium has sold-out for a record 333 straight games. Not to mention, the stadium is being expanded to accommodate the ceaseless barrage of red, to a capacity of 90,0000-plus. The Husker have not played in front of a sell-out crowd since 1962—thats over 50 years! But the fanbase’s reach goes well beyond Nebraska state lines: Husker Nation is renowned for traveling well, with fans following their football team across the nation without hesitation. Whether at home or on the road, lock down you Nebraska Cornhuskers tickets and keep the tradition going!

6/20/14 – For one Nebraska Cornhuskers commit, it’s time to “play ball.” Monte Harrison was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers (50th overall) in the 2014 MB Draft, and with the deadline for picks to sign with MLB clubs looming on July 15, the wide receiver opted for baseball. At least we won’t suffer another Bubba Starling last-minute decision. The Cornhuskers were hit with another tough defection: the loss of Washington transfer, receiver Damore’ea Stringfellow, to Ole Miss. The player originally committed to Nebraska, but the news was announced today of his new move. With all this action happening before the start of fall camp, there will be numerous roster positions up for grabs. Get your Nebraska Cornhuskers tickets and find out who takes the start come August!

5/27/14 – Three former Cornhuskers – Stanley Jean-Baptiste, Spencer Long, and Quincy Enunwa - were selected in the 2014 NFL Draft and now Bo Pelini is tasked with finding their replacements. Early signs point to Jonathan Rose, Jake Cotton, and Kenny Bell to fill their shoes. Check out the Nebraska Cornhuskers at Memorial Stadium this year for an average $151. Buy Cornhuskers football tickets today and tackle one of the most exciting game-day experiences in all of college football. Rich in traditions, Nebraska regularly sells out their games and owns the record for the most consecutive sellouts at 319. Be part of the “Sea of Red” this season and release a red balloon when Nebraska scores its first points of the game. Nebraska football tickets are in highest demand for their September 20 meeting with the Miami Hurricanes (avg. $261) and are cheapest for the game two weeks prior against the McNeese State Cowboys (avg. $115).

5/9/14 – While the quarterback situation remains unsettled, no one can debate the strength of Nebraska’s defense with linebackers Zaire Anderson, Michael Rose, and Josh Banderas. The trio have been key parts in the improvement of the position during the 2013 season and will look to prove that their old Achilles heel is healed. A first look at the 2014 squad will be against the Florida Atlantic Owls Aug. 30 (avg. $138) at Memorial Stadium Nebraska. Big Ten conference foes – Illinois (avg. $162), Purdue (avg. $135), and Minnesota (avg. $168) – will travel to Lincoln this season. However, the most expensive game on the Nebraska Cornhuskers schedule will be played against ACC’s Miami Hurricanes (avg. $244).

2/4/14 - Toting an experienced and offensively strong team, headed by QB Taylor Martinez and RB Ameer Abdullah, the Nebraska Cornhuskers entered last year favored to compete in their first Big Ten Championship. Although they scored a trip to the Gator Bowl (defeating Georgia), Nebraska really did need a better defense "to win championships," as they ultimately finished 9-4 (5-3 Big Ten), winding up #25 at the end of the year. The Cornhuskers will look to improve upon last season and proved they're in it to win it with big moves this offseason. Head coach Bo Pelini and the Big Red had a stellar weekend, adding six more recruits to their loaded class of 26; including Kendall Bussey and Blake McClain (Tulane and Florida State decommitments) who will join 4-stars DB Eric Lee and safety Avery Anderson. The additions add some flair to the No. 34 ranked class, ranked No.5 in the Big Ten. Senior OG Spencer Long is entering an NFL Draft that is laden with OT talent, while former Cornhusker cornerback Stanley Jean-Baptiste, is already drawing comparisons to Seattle’s Richard Sherman as he makes his way to the pros.

2013 Season

10/30/13 - The Cornhuskers will face Big Ten Legends opponents in four of their last five games. First Nebraska will look to rebound against Northwestern after falling to Minnesota last weekend. The Huskers hope to have Senior QB Taylor Martinez back after he suffered a hip pointer in the loss. Three consecutive wins could flip the Big Ten standings upside down, even knocking Michigan and Michigan State out of the top 25, and perhaps, saving Bo Pelini’s job. It wouldn’t be the team’s first game without their starting QB, however; Martinez missed three games this season while rehabilitating a foot injury. In his absence, Nebraska won behind Redshirt freshman Tommy Armstrong who completed 66.3 percent of his passes with nine touchdowns and one interception. The Cornhuskers regular season finale at Memorial Stadium-NE against Iowa is the most expensive game remaining on their home schedule, Nebraska Cornhuskers Football tickets start at $83.

Nebraska Cornhuskers Football 2014 Season

2013 Season

After two years in the Big Ten, the Nebraska Cornhuskers have quickly established themselves as a B1G force to be reckoned with. In their first season in the Big Ten’s Legends Division, the Huskers finished third with a 9-4 record; they followed that last year with a Legends Division championship and a solid 10-4 record. Unfortunately for Husker fans, though, the Big Red were sent to the Capital One Bowl and lost both times. The Huskers have historically had a strong running game, and last year was no exception; their 253.4 yards per game averaged on the ground was eighth in the nation among Football Bowl Subdivision schools. Leading rusher Ameer Abdullah returns for his junior season, as does senior quarterback Taylor Martinez. When Martinez needs to throw the ball, his leading receiver, junior Kenny Bell also returns; Bell will be joined by fellow wideouts Quincy Enunwa, a senior; and junior Jamal Turner.

Defensively, though, the Cornhuskers will have to replace a number of players — of the front seven defensive starters, only one player returns, defensive end Jason Ankrah; and the linebacking corps will be decidedly a young unit, as several slots on the depth chart were held by now-departed seniors. It is said that on game days, Lincoln’s Memorial Stadium becomes the third largest “city” in the state, and all those fans of the Huskers will be expecting to make a return trip to the Big Ten Championship in Indianapolis in December 2013.

Nebraska's season opens with games against Wyoming on August 31st and SMU on September 7th, but the first true test on the 2013 Huskers football schedule will be UCLA Bruins Football on September 14th. Last season, UCLA surprised Nebraska in a 36-30 win in Los Angeles. UCLA vs. Nebraska football tickets start at $102 in the lower end zones, with premium seats along the Nebraska sideline reaching $400. Big Ten football teams visiting Lincoln this season include Illinois Fighting Illini Football, Iowa Hawkeyes Football, Michigan State Spartans Football, and Northwestern Wildcats Football. Of the four, Northwestern vs. Nebraska tickets have the cheapest get-in price at $50. Iowa vs. Nebraska football tickets — $36 more per ticket — are the most expensive of the home conference games. Nebraska football fans who want to catch the action at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, without breaking the bank, will find cheap Huskers football tickets for the game versus Southern Methodist in September.
