Mississippi Rebels Football 2014 News and Updates

2/4/14 - The Mississippi Rebels ended 2013 on a high note, partaking in the Music City Bowl where they defeated Georgia Tech to secure an 8-5 record (3-5 SEC). Ole Miss will say goodbye to several players for this year’s NFL Draft: star WR Donte Moncrief (first-round projection) will forgo his senior year, WR/RB Randall Mackey, DT Gilbert Pena, CB Wesley Pendleton, RG A.J. Hawkins, and DE Jason Jones are all looking for name-calls as Radio City. Looking to build upon last season’s momentum, Ole Miss scored 23 total commits, including five 4-star prospects, and they could still add a few more names tomorrow for National Signing Day. This low-key No.13 class is a sharp contrast to last year’s loud offseason (a full recruiting class ranked No. 8), regardless, coach Freeze has quietly been putting the pieces together for a deeper O-line to bolster returning junior QB “Dr.Bo” Wallace.

2013 Season

10/30/13 – After a three-game losing streak to Alabama, Auburn, and Texas A&M, Ole Miss capped off a day of SEC upsets by beating No. 6 LSU Tigers at home with a 41-yard, game-winning field goal as the clock ran down. The Rebels made it two in a row in Oxford after defeating Iowa last weekend; now 2-3 in Conference play, Mississippi has the toughest part of their schedule behind them. Up next, the Rebels will play three straight games at Vaught Hemingway Stadium before its regular season finale in the Battle for the Golden Egg. Surprisingly, the game against the Arkansas Razorbacks is more costly than that against No. 9 Missouri Tigers.

9/4/13 - Playing in the most difficult division in the strongest conference in college football, Ole Miss has a tough road in 2013. After just gaining bowl eligibility in the final game of the 2012 season, coach Hugh Freeze hopes for improvement. The Rebels started their season strong, with a comeback road victory over Vanderbilt in the first SEC game of the year. The Rebels boast one of their most highly touted freshman classes ever, featuring the #1 player nationwide in the Class of 2013, defensive end Robert Nkemdiche. If the young, talented Rebels mature quickly, they’ll be able to compete with the several highly-ranked teams on the schedule.

The average price for the seven home games at Vaught Hemingway Stadium in 2013 is $67. The schedule is highlighted by a visit from Johnny Manziel and the Texas A&M Aggies. The 10/12 matchup is averaging $154 and is the most expensive home game of the season. Averaging just $25, the 11/16 game against Troy is the least expensive. This year’s Egg Bowl against Mississippi State will be held on Thanksgiving night, 11/28 at Scott Field in Starkville and is averaging $112. The Rebels travel to take on the 2-time defending BCS Champion Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa on 9/28. The game against Alabama is averaging $195, more than any other Ole Miss game, home or away.
