A century-old institution, there are few football games which elicit the excitement and energy of the annual Rose Bowl Game. From the inaugural Stanford-Michigan matchup (which ended 49-0 in favor of the Wolverines) up through present day, this contest has been ground zero for a spate of memorable showdowns. This year, Stanford will return to the game for a 15th time, ranking behind only Michigan and USC (22 and 30 respectively) in total appearances. A win this year will be even sweeter, creating the opportunity to take home the ultimate prize: The College Football Championship Trophy. 12/18/15 - Each year, the Rose Bowl marks one of the most hotly-anticipated games on the NCAA football schedule. It’ll be the No.5 Iowa Hawkeyes locking horns with the No. 6 Stanford Cardinal, and there are several key players expected to make an impact on the contest. Christian McCaffrey has been a revelation for Stanford, snapping legendary Barry Sanders’ single-season rushing record. Iowa will look to field general C.J. Beathard in hopes of keeping pace offensively, as two of the top squads in the nation battle for supremacy on New Year’s Day 2016. You can still reserve your spot at the Rose Bowl with tickets starting at $236 apiece! Grab yours now before it’s too late!
12/8/15 - The committee has spoken and they have decided to send Stanford and Iowa to face off against each other for the Rose Bowl title. To start the year off right, the game will be held on January 1 in Pasadena, CA. This is the first time the Iowa Hawkeyes have been to the Rose Bowl in 25 years. Despite their devastating loss to Ohio State, they still earned a trip to the Bowl. This will be Stanford’s third time in four years heading to the Rose Bowl, and they aren’t upset about this result. Don’t miss your opportunity to see these two teams tackle it out on New Year’s Day. Tickets are still available.
12/4/15 - With USC, Stanford, Michigan State and Iowa all playing this weekend, this year's Rose Bowl selection is wide open. The winner of the Big Ten Championship will advance to the College Football Playoff, leaving the committee with a tough choice between this weekend's loser and potentially Ohio State. Stanford, with a convincing win and losses by Alabama and Clemson, could sneak into the playoff. In that scenario it's possible another Pac 12 team could get invited or an outsider.
12/31/14 - When people think of explosive offenses in college football, two teams come to their minds: Oregon and Florida State. Both of these teams have shined during the college season, and finally, they get to challenge each other in the Rose Bowl. The game takes place January 1, 2015, and up for grabs is a chance to compete for the national title. On paper, this is going to be an explosive, competitive game. Marcus Mariota, Oregon’s quarterback, has already won the Heisman, and he has the chance to bring Oregon to the promise land. For Florida State, they have done just enough each game to maintain an undefeated record of 13-0. A huge reason for their success is because of Jameis Winston, a controversial quarterback who’s been able to do a lot both running and throwing. Tickets for this monumental game can be bought now for $123.
12/22/14 - One of the hottest bowls this season is the Rose Bowl, which features a highly competitive game between Florida State (ranked 3rd) and Oregon (ranked 2nd). The winner of this game moves on to the National Championship, so a lot is at stake. A huge tactic for Oregon in this game is going to be Marcus Mariota’s ability to scramble and threaten with the deep ball. He’s as dynamic as they come, which is a huge reason why he won the Heisman this year. Oregon also needs to rely on the run, which can help open up the deep ball. For Florida State, they have just kept their nose to the grind stone, and they simply need to find a way to win. This is certainly possible if their quarterback, Jameis Winston, limits his turnovers. Tickets for the game can be bought for $90.
12/19/14 - The 2015 Rose Bowl game in sunny Pasadena, California promises to be another exciting match-up. It will feature the Oregon Ducks versus the Florida State Seminoles. The Ducks are coming off a near perfect 12-1 season. They are led quarterback Marcus Mariota who won the Heisman Trophy. Florida State, coached by Jimbo Fisher, had a perfect 13-0 this season. The Seminoles have a very talented team and many strong players including First Team All Americans Nick O’Leary, Tre’Jackson, Jalen Ramsey and Eddie Goldman. Tickets are available, but selling fast, for this highly anticipated match-up. The winner of the Rose Bowl advances to the College Football Playoff Championship in Arlington, Texas on January 12 where they will meet either the Alabama Crimson Tide or Ohio State Buckeyes.
12/7/14 - Last year's Heisman winner, Jameis Winston, will meet this year's Heisman favorite, Marcus Mariota, when the Florida State Seminoles play the Oregon Ducks in the 2015 Rose Bowl. Oregon and FSU finished No. 2 and No. 3 in today's College Football Playoff rankings. Oregon whipped Arizona 51-13 on Friday night in the Pac 12 Championship game, while the Seminoles snuck by a slippery Georgia Tech team 37-35 in Saturday's ACC Championship. The winner will play the Alabama vs Ohio State winner in the College Football Championship game.
12/5/14 - This year's Rose Bowl matchup will be announced on Sunday, December 7th, and two of the top four teams in the country will meet in Pasadena on January 1st to determine who will advance to the College Football Championship Game. After the the playoff rankings were updated on Tuesday, Alabama, Oregon, TCU and Florida State became the most likely teams to play in sunny LA on New Year's Day.
8/29/14 - College Football is finally back! Big match ups of Week 1 include Florida State vs. Oklahoma State, LSU vs. Wisconsin and Georgia vs. Clemson—all going head-to-head this Saturday. Now that the Rose Bowl will not exclusively host Pac 12 or B1G champion teams, could you be seeing one of these schools come Jan. 1? Pasadena is used to hosting the best of the best, but 2015 Rose Bowl tickets will guarantee you’ll see a national title contender. After all, the victor in this "New Year's Six” semifinal will advance to the first-ever College Football Championship. If Texas is the heart of football, then why are Rose Bowl tickets more sought-after than their Cotton Bowl counterpart? Join fellow CFB fanatics with seats in Pasadena; the get-in price currently stands at a $218 minimum, which is nearly $80 more expensive than CFP semifinal tickets in Texas. 12/9/13 - Michigan State will face Pac-12 kings, Stanford who are playing in their second consecutive appearance at the historic Rose Bowl. The Spartans won the Big 10’s automatic bid to visit Pasadena for the first time in 26 years and they will look to spoil the Cardinal who beat seven ranked teams on their way to the west coast title. Keep an eye on that line of scrimmage and get ready for an all-out rough and tumble fight, as these defenses are virtually unmatched in the nation! Rose Bowl tickets are the second most in-demand after the BCS National Championship Game, starting at $387 in the upper levels, and $1,197 on average. Bring some earplugs and sunscreen because it’s going to be a raucous and sunny New Year’s game when these teams meet in Pasadena!
10/18/13 - After a roller coaster Week 7 of college football, the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Stanford Cardinals are the favorite contenders for the “Granddaddy of Them All” Rose Bowl Game. The Big 10 title is likely to go to Ohio State, who are on their way to a perfect season, having already faced the difficult part of their schedule, defeating Wisconsin and Northwestern. Still, the Buckeyes face a great challenge if they hope to capture the BCS National Championship Title, with powerhouses Alabama, Oregon and Clemson most likely to finish ahead of them, so instead, Ohio has been slotted to play in Rose Bowl.
Less concrete is the challenger rising from the Pac-12 Conference. Although Stanford is still favored to appear at the Rose Bowl, the Cardinals just fell to Utah in a big upset loss (21-27) terminating their unbeaten season. The dark horse in the race for the coveted Pac-12 title is UCLA, who, after completely dominating Cal, is the underdog favorite to emerge in Rose Bowl. But there is trouble on the horizon, as the Bruins have a tough schedule coming up, featuring two consecutive away games that will determine their chances: they meet the Oregon Ducks in two weeks, and tomorrow morning, they will play Stanford, who UCLA lost to in back-to-back games last season, one being the Pac-12 Championship game.
Rose Bowl History
There’s a reason why the Rose Bowl is called “The Granddaddy of Them All.” It is the
original bowl game, first played in 1902. Since that time, the Pasadena spectacle has only grown in stature, with over 100,000 ticket-holders regularly cramming into the massive stadium each January 1. With that many seats in the interior bowl there are endless seating and pricing options and we’ve got everything you need to make the best possible choice. But don’t wait too long, 2017 Rose Bowl tickets are sure to go like lighting now that the NCAA has deemed it one of two semifinal sites in the first-ever College Football Playoff.
Pasadena is no stranger to prestige, as the Rose Bowl of the BCS era pitted the Pac-12 Champion against the Big Ten Champion annually, unless either were involved in the national championship game. Now, under the new CFP system, the Rose Bowl is part of the “New Year’s Six” rotation and will host two semifinal teams every three years—2016 happens to be one of those special seasons!
At the close of the regular season, four of the nation’s top teams will be picked by a 13-person College Football Selection Committee. The playoff semifinals will split contenders between the Rose Bowl and the Sugar Bowl. The two teams to emerge from the semifinals will advance to the 2017 College Football Championship Game held at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, FL on Jan. 9, 2017. Seasons where the Rose Bowl is excluded from semifinals will feature two at-large teams selected by the same committee, base on competitiveness and geography.
