NCAA 2nd-3rd Round - Buffalo 2014 News and Updates
New Yorkers love their basketball, so it should be no surprise that Buffalo was selected to host the second and third rounds of the 2014 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament for the fifth time. First Niagara Center
, home to NHL’s Buffalo Sabres
, is one of eight sites hosting second and third round games which will be played with a Thursday-Saturday format on March 20 and 22. Hosted by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, games in NCAA tournament games in Buffalo routinely sell out. In 2010, Buffalo had the highest attendance of the eight venues that held games in the first and second rounds with 56,535 NCAA tournament tickets sold over three sessions; the average attendance per session was larger than some of the Regional semifinal and final games that year.
Selection Sunday will occur on March 16, 2014 and on that day college basketball fans will find out their team’s seed and second/third round placement. On Thursday, March 20, two second round sessions will resume at First Niagara Center, each session includes two games. The second round winners of the four games, will play Saturday March 22 in session 3, which will also be comprised of two games. The two winners from the third round will advance to the Sweet 16 and their respective Regional.
Current No. 1 Syracuse
, a 10-time tournament host, will be the site of the 2015 East Regional.
