NC State Wolfpack Basketball 2014-2015 News and Updates

12/17/14 - North Carolina State Wolfpack basketball looks to rebound after a heartbreaking 55-54 loss last Sunday to the Wofford Terriers. In a mostly even game, the Wolfpack doomed themselves with 11 turnovers, allowing their opponents 14 more scoring opportunities, including junior Justin Gordan’s layup with 1.9 seconds remaining that would ultimately seal the win for the Terriers. Trevor Lacey sank a running three-pointer at the buzzer for NC State, but it was waved off, as officials ruled the ball had not left his hands before time expired. It was a tough way to end the game for the junior guard, who led his team with 18 points and four assists. The ‘Pack will try to get back on track when they host Tennessee on Wednesday, before a weekend showdown with no. 22 West Virginia. Go Wolfpack!

12/11/14 - North Carolina State Wolfpack basketball got back into the win column on Saturday, defeating the Wake Forest Demon Deacons by a score of 78-65 in the ACC opener for both teams. Senior guard Ralston Turner led the way for the Pack, scoring 21 points on 7-13 shooting in 38 minutes. Junior guard Trevor Lacey added 15 points to go with a game-high six assists for NC State, who bounced back from their loss on the road to Purdue, improving their record to 7-1 on the season. The Wolfpack will try to continue building on their flawless record at PNC Arena this weekend, as they face Will Saunders and the Big South-best Charleston Southern Buccaneers on Friday night, before hosting the Wofford Terriers on Sunday afternoon.

12/4/14 - The Wolfpack suffered their first defeat of the season on Tuesday, falling 66-61 to Purdue in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The loss dropped them to 6-1 on the season, and 0-1 on the road. Sophomore forward Kyle Washington led NC State with 17 points and nine rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Boilermakers, who shot only 39 percent from the floor but won the battle on the boards, as well as dishing five more assists as a team. The Pack returns home Saturday night and will look to regroup versus the 4-4 Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Tickets are available through Razorgator, and with seats starting under $5, there’s no better time to get out and show your support for North Carolina State Wolfpack basketball!

11/24/14 - The undefeated North Carolina State Wolfpack easily dismantled the Jacksonville Dolphins on November 22nd, winning 79-43. They followed that with a close 68-65 home victory over the South Florida Bulls on Sunday afternoon. The Wolfpack’s leading scorer so far in the young season continues to be sophomore guard Anthony Barber, with an average of just over 16 points per game. NC State is currently ranked in the top 3 in the entire nation for rebounds. Led by forward Lennard Freeman, the team is averaging 52 boards per game. The Wolfpack’s next home game is against the Richmond Spiders, with tip-off on Wednesday, November 26th at 7 pm. Next up, the Boise State Broncos visit the PNC Arena on Friday, November 28th. 11/21/14 - Taking on JKST in their season opener, the North Carolina State Wolfpack wanted to make a statement. They did just that, beating their opponent 93-58. From the very beginning, it wasn’t that close. Leading his team to victory was Anthony Barber, who went on to score 25 points. He also had 6 rebound and 6 steals, which played a crucial part for the Wolfpack’s defense. They will need him to continue his efforts in order to build some momentum in their conference. Trevor Lacey also had a great game, scoring 25 points and going lights out from the 3-point land. His dynamic shooting got the rest of the offense going. Next up for them is a game with JAC, which they are heavily favored to win. In order to come away with the win, Barber will need to set the tempo early. Tickets for the game can be bought now for an extremely low price of $1.

11/13/14 - North Carolina State Wolfpack basketball kicks off its season by hosting the Jackson State Tigers at the PNC Arena in Raleigh Friday, November 14th. North Carolina State Wolfpack is likely to have an interesting season since they have only one designated point guard on their roster, Cat Barber. Barber’s performances seemed to be hit and miss last season, and this season he will have a lot riding on his shoulders. He has been spending his off-season developing coaching skills on the court with the help of head coach Mark Gottfried. North Caroline State hosts the Jackson State Tigers on Friday, then hosts Hofstra Pride Basketball on Monday, November 17th. Tickets are still available for the opening game and Monday’s game starting at $2 and $1 respectively.

2013-2014 Season

2/7/14 – With just five weeks left until Selection Sunday, the Wolfpack are going to need to make some major moves to get into the NCAA Tournament. NC State’s first chance to prove they are ready to dance, will come Saturday against 2013 ACC Champion Miami Hurricanes. Vying for one of the last 10 at-large bids that makes up the 68 NCAA field, NC State wins against Syracuse and Pittsburgh on the road and versus North Carolina at home, will give the Wolfpack their best chance to jump in the RPI and get on the other side of the bubble come selection time. NC State vs North Carolina Tar Heels basketball tickets are by far the most expensive, averaging $135 for the rivalry game. All three other games left at PNC Arena this season - Wake Forest Demon Deacons (avg. $16), Miami Hurricanes (avg. $39), Boston College Eagles (avg. $29)- have North Carolina State Wolfpack tickets available for under $10.

1/9/14 - The North Carolina Wolfpack upset the Fighting Irish to win their first conference game on the road over Notre Dame, pushing them up to No. 7 in the ACC standings. The win granted NC State a much-needed boost to get them back on track after losing their conference opener to Pittsburgh, collapsing in the second half at home this past Saturday. Now, with a 1-1 record in the AAC, the Wolfpack can improve their standings with their first conference win at home when they take on the #3 Virginia Cavaliers this Saturday. Sophomore wingman T.J. Warren helped take the squad to victory, and remains the ACC’s top leading scorer with 23.8 avg ppg, while Anthony Barber provided stunning assistance in the team effort. NC State won’t be back home until Jan 20 against Maryland, so grab your tickets now for this weekend for just $19!

NC State Wolfpack Basketball 2014-2015 Season

2013-2014 Season

NC State basketball has always been a distinguished force in the ACC, as the Wolfpack was a founding member of the conference. They have two national championships and ten conference championships under their belt. Mark Gottfreid is in his third year of coaching and has taken the Wolfpack to the NCAA Tournament each of his years (once to the Sweet 16). The season he has a young group of men eager to prove their skills when they take court to claim their division,

a title they have missed since 1979.

This year, the Wolfpack opens at home with a game against Appalachian State on Nov 8. They will open ACC play against the Pittsburgh Panthers at home (Jan 4), followed by a schedule lined with tough opponents: #21 Notre Dame, #4 Duke (Jan 18) and #12 North Carolina (Feb 1). They are pitted against rivals North Carolina Tar Heels in February, last year they split their heated meetings, but things may not be so even this time around, as the Coaches Poll ranks North Carolina No. 11 while NC State did not cut the Top 25.

Gottfried has a team that is currently ranked 9th in the ACC, but has a lot of new players to make up one of the youngest squads in the nation. Five of their six scorers gone: two were lost to the NBA draft (CJ Leslie and Lorenzo Brown), two more graduated, and Rodney Purvis transferred over to UConn. Only two players are returning this year, and both are sophomores: forward Raleigh-native T.J. Warren is the new go-to scorer, who will get support and assists from point guard Tyler Lewis. Both made a good showing during the Wolfpack’s exhibition match against Pembroke, up 96-85. In what some are calling a rebuilding year, Lewis believes the team will “surprise” many when they look to make waves in the NIT. Go Pack!
