Louisville Cardinals Basketball 2014-2015 News and Updates

3/11/15 - Louisville Cardinals basketball continues to boost their overall season record with a stellar win against Virginia on Saturday night. The whole game came down to a buzzer beater and Mangok Mathiang was able to pull through during those last seconds by hitting a free throw jump shot to win the game. Those were his only points of the night and they definitely made all of the difference in the world. At the end of the game the Cardinals honored their seniors including Blackshear and Harrell, who is planning to head to the NBA after the close of the season. Louisville’s opponent in the ACC tournament is to be determined, but it will be worth the wait. Get your tickets today starting at $34 a piece.

3/3/15 - The Louisville Cardinals are coming off a huge win against the Florida State Seminoles. In past seasons, Louisville has finished strong late in February, and this year has been no different. Wayne Blackshear scored 18 points with 4 rebounds, and he was a driving force for the Cardinals. As a team, the Cardinals played exceptionally well. They shot 31 of 64 from the floor. Where the team really shined was on defense. They ended up forcing 21 turnovers, which led to a lot of points on the other end. Next up for Louisville is a game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. On paper, there should be a lot of scoring.

2/25/15 - The Louisville Cardinals are on cloud nine after their performance against Georgia Tech this past Monday. It was a hard-fought win, and they ended up beating the Yellow Jackets by 1 point. The final score was 51-50, and a huge reason for their victory was the performance of Terry Rozier. He ended up getting on a little shooting streak near the end, and helped cut down a 13 point deficit. He ended the game with 22 points, which helped his team move up to the number 17 ranking in college basketball. Another reason for their narrow win was the Cardinals’ defense. They got stops when they needed them the most. Next up for them is a game against Florida State, which goes down this upcoming Saturday. Tickets can be bought now for $19.

2/17/15 - The Louisville Cardinals are currently ranked 12th in the nation right now. Their last game took place last Saturday against NC State. They played well for three quarters, but near the end, they couldn’t score when it mattered the most. They ended up losing 74-65. A top scorer for Louisville was Wayne Blackshear, who went on to score 19 points. Chris Jones, the Cardinals’ guard, also played outstanding, scoring 20 points. His efforts were not enough, however. They simply couldn’t stop Cat Barber on the offensive front, and they will need to adjust their defensive scheme if they hope to get some momentum before their season is over. Up next for the Cardinals is a game against Syracuse. Tickets can be purchased now for $9.

2/11/15 - As we inch closer to what promises to be an unforgettable NCAA national championship tournament, teams around the country are beginning to round into form. Rick Pitino’s Louisville Cardinals have been enjoying a successful season, with their only losses having come against ranked teams (three of which were in the top five). Coming off a frustrating performance in a 52-47 loss to the #3 Virginia Cavaliers, the Cardinals look to get back to their winning ways with a home contest tonight against Pitt. Come out to the palatial KFC Yum Center in Louisville to cheer on Terry Rozier, Montrezl Harrell, and the rest of the Louisville Cardinals Basketball team as they take on the Panthers. With available tickets remaining starting at just $4, Razorgator is the best place to secure your seats.

2/3/15 - The Louisville Cardinals are red hot as of late. They have a record of 19-3, and their offense seems to be clicking like never before. This last Tuesday, they took on the talented Miami team. It was a close game for four straight quarters, but near the end, the Cardinals did enough to pull away with the 63-55 win. The leading scorer for the Cardinals on the night was Chris Jones, who ended up with 16 points. He also had 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Louisville’s defense looked particularly great throughout the game, which bodes well heading into their next game. On docket for the Cardinals is a great match up with Virginia, who are the 3rd ranked team in college basketball right now. Tickets can be bought for $113.

1/27/15 - The Louisville Cardinals have had a pretty successful season thus far this year. They are the fifth ranked team in the Atlantic Coast Conference and have a 16-3 record. They are the 10th ranked team in the nation, and are riding high off a dominant performance against Pittsburg this past Sunday. In their win, which ended with a final score of 80-68, Terry Rozier had a great game. He ended up with 26 points with 6 assists and 5 rebounds. It was a well-rounded performance from him, and he really set the tempo early for the Cardinals. Next on the docket for Louisville is a competitive, tough game against Boston College. Both teams have looked great as of late, so the winner could create some momentum for the rest of the season. Tickets for the game can be bought for $2.

1/20/15 - The Louisville Cardinals currently sport a 15-3 record. They have looked great this season, but unfortunately, are coming off a loss against one of the best teams in the nation in Duke. The final score ended up being 63-52. In their hard fought loss, Montrezl Harrell went on to score 10 points and he had 14 rebounds. His efforts on the boards were not enough though. His team is going to have to rally behind them if they want to rebound off this tough loss. Their next game is against Pittsburg. It’s a winnable game for them, but they are going to have to shoot better from the perimeter if they want to come out with the win. Tickets for the game are available now for $32.

1/12/15 - The Louisville Cardinals basketball team was just starting to build their winning streak back up after suffering their first loss last month, when they suffered another on the North Carolina Tar Heels' court, losing by a single point. More recently, the Cardinals were able to score a very strong 15-point victory against the Virginia Tech Hokies on Jan. 13th. Terry Rozier led with 16 points and Chris Jones contributed 11 assists, a record high for his career. This win brings the Cardinals to 15-2 and secures them as sixth for the league. Next, they will be playing the Duke Blue Devils, one of the five teams above them, which you can attend for $81. Then their game on the 31st will be their last home game for the season.

1/8/15 - The Louisville Cardinals basketball team is having an excellent season, but recently had their winning streak taken from then. Since then, they have built a nice three-game winning streak with their most recent win against the Clemson Tigers. They did poorly in the first half, trailing by four by the end, but guards Chris Jones and Terry Rozier opened the second half with a 17-0 run that the Tigers never recovered from. By the end of the game, the Cardinals held a strong 52-58 lead which brought their wins to 14. Still being one of the highest ranked teams in the league despite no longer being undefeated, things are looking up for Louisville as they travel to North Carolina for an away game and then return on Jan. 13th to play the Virginia Tech Hokies.

12/31/14 - Two of the top teams in the league played on the 27th: The Kentucky Wildcats and the Louisville Cardinals basketball teams. Both were undefeated, but only Kentucky could keep their winning streak alive. It was disappointing for the Cardinals, but they are back on the horse with a strong win on the 30th against the Long Beach State 49ers. They were way ahead by the half, the score being 19-34, and finished with a strong defense to maintain their lead. The final score came to 48-63, which brings the Cardinals to 12-1. It is sad to see their undefeated status go, but Louisville is still one of the highest ranked teams. Tickets are only $3 for their next home game against the Clemson Tigers on January 7th.

12/25/14 - The Louisville Cardinals basketball team remains undefeated after a blowout win against the Cal State Northridge Matadors. Being able to score significantly more in each half, the Cardinals led by 25 with a final score of 55-80. Wayne Blackshear shot a career-high 31 points this game, hitting 11 of 17 shots from the field and nabbing 16 of his team's first 21 points. This win brings the Cardinals to 11-0 where they still sit in the fourth position in the rankings. They are, however, taking on the monster team, the Kentucky Wildcats (12-0), for their next game on the 27th. The Wildcats are the top team right now and beating them would be a giant leap toward the top. Tickets for this monumental game are available for $184.

12/17/14 - Louisville Cardinals basketball kept on rolling Sunday, as they defeated the UNC-Wilmington Seahawks, 68-57. The no. 4 Cardinals moved to 9-0 on the season with the win, including 7-0 on their home floor. Montrezl Harrell led the way for Louisville, pouring in 19 points and grabbing 17 rebounds in 38 minutes. The Cardinals did not have their best offensive game, shooting a mild 41 percent from the floor, including 1-13 from three-point territory. However, they out-rebounded the opposition 44-35, and capitalized on 18 Seahawks turnovers to claim the victory. Saturday afternoon the Cards visit Western Kentucky, before returning home to host CS Northridge on December 23rd. Razorgator is your ticket in to the KFC Yum Center for all the action, with seats starting at just $4!

12/10/14 - The Cardinals kept rolling Tuesday night, defeating the Indiana Hoosiers convincingly, 94-74. Sophomore guard Terry Rozier scored a career-high 26 points to lead Louisville, who also got 21 and 11 rebounds from Montrezl Harrell and 24 points from Chris Jones in the winning effort. The Hoosiers shot a better percentage from the floor, but ultimately it was the Cardinals’ dominating front line that secured the win, snaring 26 offensive rebounds which led to 18 more field goal attempts than the opposition. Louisville Cardinals basketball improved to a spotless 8-0 for the season with the victory, and will look to stay perfect at home on Sunday when they host the UNC-Wilmington Seahawks. Razorgator is your source for great prices, with tickets for the game starting at just $4!

12/3/14 - It’s still early in the season, but Louisville Cardinals basketball is already in full swing! The Cards managed to stay perfect on Tuesday night, defeating the #14 Ohio State Buckeyes 64-55 in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge to improve their record to 6-0 overall. Louisville senior swingman Wayne Blackshear led all scorers with 22 points, and Montrezel Harrell added 13 points and 10 rebounds to spark the #5 Cardinals to a big victory over the previously unbeaten Buckeyes. The Cards will be at home again on Friday night, playing host to Florida International, who will enter with a 5-3 record but still looking for their first road win of the season. Get to the game with great ticket prices from Razorgator, with seats starting at just $3!

11/24/14 - The #7 Louisville Cardinals host Cleveland State in the Global Sports Showcase tournament on Wednesday evening, then take on the 20th ranked Ohio State Buckeyes at home on Tuesday, December 2nd in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. As this is the Cardinals’ inaugural year in the ACC, they will be extra motivated to win this one on behalf of the conference. Junior forward Montrezl Harrell continues to lead the Cards in scoring, averaging 22 points per game. After Ohio State, Louisville is at home again on Friday, December 5th, taking on the Florida International Golden Panthers. Louisville then heads to Madison Square Garden for a tip-off against the Indiana Hoosiers in the Jimmy V Classic on Tuesday, December 9th. Get your tickets now for an upcoming game and support the nationally ranked Cardinals!

11/20/14 - The Louisville Cardinals are poised to do some great things this year. In their first game of the season, the Cardinals took on Minnesota. They dominated the game early and finished it off nicely, with the final score being 81-68. In their dominant win, Montrezl Harrell was a leading force, scoring 30 points with 7 rebounds. He would constantly block out his opponents once the ball soared through the air, and it’s this type of effort that is going to make the Cardinals dangerous this season. Terry Rozier also had a stellar game, getting 18 points to help Louisville prevail in the Armed Forces classic. He will need to keep putting up these numbers to make them dominate Atlantic Coast conference. Up next for them is a game against JVST. They are favored to win, but will still need to set the temp early. Tickets for the game are available now for a low $4.

11/12/14 - One of the best teams in the ACC last season was the Louisville Cardinals. They ended up with an overall record of 31-6, and were 15-3 in the ACC. They will be hoping to have even more success this season, which is certainly possible thanks to their high-powered offense. Currently, they are ranked 8th in the nation, and they will be looking to move up the college ladder this Friday night. They will be taking on Minnesota, a team that is no stranger to upsets. In order for the Cardinals to keep the upset from happening, they will need to set the tempo early and dominate the boards. They will need their guard, Chris Jones to help out the team early. Terry Rozier will also need to keep his shooting percentage high in order to come away with the victory. Tickets for the game are available now, which start at a low $3.

2013-2014 Season

2/7/14 – With their sights on a third straight Final Four, Rick Pitino and Co. are not focusing on their three Top 25 losses this season; instead, the HC will look forward, trying to get the most out of the players (as he always does) still on his roster as they cap off the regular season and head into the first annual AAC conference tournament. Thus far, upper classman Russ Smith and Luke Hancock have led the team, not only in points but also as supporters and motivators. Louisville’s sophomore has proven he can be called on; Montrezl Harrell’s dunk and block in back-to-back plays against SMU is one example that comes to mind. Following the dismissal of Chane Behanan (Colorado State), Louisville also lost Kevin Ware after he re-aggravated the leg injury he suffered in last year’s NCAA Tournament. If history is to repeat itself, everything will come together for Louisville when it counts.

1/9/14 - The Louisville Cardinals are explosive this season, with a 13-2 record, a No. 2 standing in the AAC, and No. 12 in the nation. After a loss to Kentucky, the Cards opeed up AAC play before the New Year, and Louisville enjoyed two consecutive wins to start off league play. After four road games, your Louisville Cardinals are returning home to the KFC Yum! Center today, and you can get in for only $29! The Cards will host rivals, the Memphis Tigers, where they can win for a fifth straight time over their conference foes. Though the team had to dismiss junior forward Chane Benahan a week ago, with Russ Smith leading the team at 17.7 ppg and 74 assists, helped by Chris Jones who leads in steals, things are looking just as good for the Cards. Coach Rick Pitino is striving for a mini-dynasty, having won two conference championships back to back, this would be their third—be there to watch this team take it to the top!

The Louisville Cardinals are itching to be the first team since the 06-07 Florida Gators to win the national title back-to-back, and Coach Pitino is hoping to create a “mini-dynasty” with his squad. As the defending national champions, the Cardinals have enough players returning to make major moves again the year. Rick Pitino has brought Louiseville to NCAA Tournaments 10 of 12 years as a coach, finishing out in the Elite 8 five times and the Final 4 three times. The Cards are favored to win the AAC Conference title, with the only contention coming from UConn Huskies, Memphis Tigers and Cincinnati Bearcats.

In preseason the Cards were ranked sixth, but since then, they have moved up to #3 on the AP and Coaches polls, and when the season commences, they will again push for the highest ranking. But first, they’ll have to get through intense rivalries with the Kentucky Wildcats Dec 28 in the most expensive College Basketball game of the season, and North Carolina Tar Heels Nov 24. The Cards kick off the season on Nov 9 against the College of Charleston, and their regular season closes with a game against UConn at the KFC Yum! Center.

The ‘Ville are working with a lot of depth this year, as the squad features 3 of their 5 starters and the entire bench from last season. The Cards lost two key players: Peyton Siva and Gorgui Dieng to the NBA, but returning is senior Russ Smith (arguably the best backcourt player in the nation), Chane Behanan, Luke Hancock (2013 Final 4 Most Valuable Player), Montrezl Harrell and Wayne Blackshear, leaving Louisville with an experienced and pre-contended group of men ready to defend their title. Don’t miss out on The ‘Ville’s push for postseason as they hope to make history!
