Georgetown Hoyas Basketball 2014-2015 News and Updates

12/16/14 - Georgetown Hoyas basketball looks to stay in the win column this Saturday, as they face off with the Charlotte 49ers. The Hoyas bounced back from their recent loss to the no. 10 Kansas Jayhawks with a 27-point pummeling of the Radford Highlanders last weekend, 76-49. After a low-scoring first half in which Radford managed only 18 points, the Hoyas took over behind senior Aaron Bowen, who scored 16 points in just 20 minutes off the bench. Georgetown won the battle of the boards as well, 39-24, while managing to grab 10 steals as a team. They will host Charlotte at noon on Saturday at the Verizon Center, and Razorgator has great seats available starting at just $3 each, so come out and support your Hoyas!

12/8/14 - Georgetown Hoyas basketball faces a tough test on Wednesday evening, as they host the #10 Kansas Jayhawks at the Verizon Center. Georgetown rolled over the Townson Tigers on Sunday, 78-46, improving their record to 5-2 on the season. Led by 16 points from D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera, the Hoyas used an 18-4 advantage in assists and nearly 55 percent shooting from the floor as a team to rout the Tigers. Senior center Joshua Smith added 12 points and seven boards in the winning effort. Georgetown will need to turn in another strong game against Perry Ellis and the 6-1 Jayhawks on Wednesday if they want to break through to the national top 25 and remain undefeated at home. Razorgator is your source for great ticket prices, with seats still available from $23!

12/2/14 - After a disappointing fourth-place finish at the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament, Georgetown looks to rebound at home on Sunday versus Townson. The Hoyas overcame #18 Florida with a thrilling one-point overtime win on Wednesday night, before falling to #2 Wisconsin in a Thanksgiving nail-biter less than 24 hours later. Conference rival Butler then handed the Hoyas their second disheartening loss in as many days, as Paul White’s potential game-tying three from the corner rattled out, allowing the Bulldogs to escape from Paradise Island with a victory in the third place game. The Hoyas will try to stay unbeaten at home as they host the Towson Tigers, who after opening their season with a loss at Alabama have gone on to win six straight. Razorgator is offering great prices on Georgetown Hoyas basketball tickets, with seats still available for under $5! Come out and show your team spirit!

11/25/14 - The 2014-2015 college basketball season is just beginning to heat up for your Georgetown Hoyas. After a 3-0 start, the Hoyas are prepared for a brutal slate of non conference games against such marquee opponents as #8 Florida, #5 Kansas, and Indiana. Victories against such elite opponents would springboard your Hoyas into the rankings and could set the table for a memorable season. Come out to the Verizon Center to cheer on Josh Smith, L.J. Peak, and the rest of the Hoyas to victory. With tickets starting at just $2 for upcoming games, Razorgator is the best place to secure your seats. There is no better time than now to make it out to a game and support Georgetown Hoyas Basketball as they fight for a Big East title and NCAA berth.

11/20/14 - The Georgetown Hoyas basketball team kicked off the 2014-2015 season on a positive note, beating the Saint Francis Brooklyn Terriers 83-62 on Saturday afternoon at the Verizon Center. Georgetown’s freshman forward L.J. Peak had a game-high 23 points and senior guard Jabril Trawick contributed 11 in the Hoyas victory. Hoyas star D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera struggled in the opener, hitting only 2 of 9 in 30 minutes of playing time. In spite of his slow start in the opener, Smith-Rivera has just been named to the 2014 Wooden Award Preseason Top 50 Watchlist, joining 49 of the most outstanding players from around the country. He is the only player in the entire Big East Conference to be included in this prestigious list. Come out and watch this potential star-in-the-making, and cheer on the tradition-rich Hoyas. Buy your tickets today, starting at only $1!

11/11/14 - The first game of the season for the Georgetown Hoyas basketball team will be against St. Francis of New York. They will be hoping to start this season off right with a win, and on paper, they are heavily favored. Last season, they didn’t have the most successful season, going 18-15 and were 7th in the Big East Standings. They will hope this season is a better one. Their leading guard, D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera will be hoping to have a breakout performance this Saturday going up against St. Francis. Last season, he averaged 17.6 points per game with 5 rebounds per game. They will need him to lead this Hoyas team to victory, along with Markel Starks, who averaged 17.3 points per game last season. Tickets for next weekend’s game, which takes place at the Verizon Center, can be bought for an amazing low $1. Check out the Hoyas in action in their season opener, which has the makings to be a great game.

2013-2014 Season

2/7/14 – February is looking up for the Hoyas after a disappointing January. Georgetown finished last month with five straight losses and saw UCLA transfer Josh Smith suspended because of academics. But, one month before March Madness, and the Hoyas upset No.7 Michigan State last weekend and took down DePaul two days later. The next four games on the Georgetown Hoyas basketball schedule are certainly winnable with Butler, Providence, St. John's and Seton Hall on the horizon. Nothing is out of the question for the Georgetown Hoyas if they can regain some confidence and find a presence in the pain, but the Big East tournament is looking to be Georgetown’s best chance to qualify for the NCAA Tournament.

1/3/14 - The Georgetown Hoyas are currently 4th in the Big East, with three early losses to their record this season, two to ranked teams. The Hoyas won their Big East opener, 61-54, over DePaul on New Years Eve, despite a number of clumsy turnovers and lackluster scoring in the first half. Georgetown snapped out of it, with the help of co-captain Markel Starks, who scored a game-high 21 points. Georgetown Hoyas tickets playing host to St. Johns Red Storm on January 4 start at $18, their marquee January 27 matchup with the Villanova Wildcats starts at $29, while their big Super Bowl weekend game at Madison Square Garden against powerhouse Michigan State looms on the horizon. Get in on the Fighting Hoyas action as they partake in new-look Big East play this season!

10/25/13 - The storied Georgetown Hoyas are in for an exciting season, picked #2 in the Big East by the Coaches poll, just behind Marquette. Last season, spearheaded by coach John Thompson III, the Hoyas were the top overall seed for the Big East Tournament and finished #2 seeds in the NCAA Tournament, ultimately upset by Florida Gulf Coast. The Hoyas are hoping to brush off their post-season blues, being eliminated for five consecutive years by double-digit seeds, eyeing the Big East title with an optimistic and seasoned squad.
