Duke Blue Devils Basketball 2014-2015 News and Updates

2013-2014 Season

2/7/14 – There is no question that the Blue Devils have a lot of talent and heart. Jabari Parker continues to show why he is an ACC Player of the Year candidate and Rasheed Sulaimon proved he is clutch with a last-second three to force overtime on the road against Syracuse. If Duke can play like they did at the Carrier Dome Saturday, the rest of the season, they’ll be in the hunt for an ACC title and tournament championship win. The most expensive game in Durham is the season finale against rival North Carolina, followed by a Syracuse Orange rematch in two weeks. An 8-0 run to finish the regular season is not out of the question for this Duke Blue Devils lineup that runs deep with not just Parker, Sulaimon, and superstar Rodney Hood; but also Andre Dawkins who is playing with more confidence, nailing six three-pointers against Pitt Jan 27, and rising star Amile Jefferson who is a beast down low and has shown he has the will to win.

1/3/14 - The Duke Blue Devils finished 2013 with an imposing 11-2 record after routing Elon 86-48 before the winter break. Duke's two losses to Kansas and Arizona are blemishes on an otherwise stunning season, as freshman superstar Jabari Parker has already stirred up talk for ACC Player of the Year, while Rodney Hood has averaged 17.6 points a game. Duke comprises a score-happy offense that covers up for their shortage of perimeter defense and dismal rebounding points, and were selected by the media during preseason to take the conference title. The Blue Devils will begin challenging ACC opponents starting January 4 against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Duke Blue Devils tickets to see the tipoff in Durham against their biggest obstacles, the Syracuse Orange, on February 22 start at an incredible $792, compared to their road trip to the Carrier Dome on February 1, which offers a $65 get-in price. Likewise Duke basketball tickets for the biggest rivalry in College Basketball against UNC are averaging $1,036; Blue Devils supporters can travel 10 miles to Chapel Hill to see the same two teams battle for an average price of $236.

2013-2014 Season

The Blue Devils are continually favored to lead the ACC, after all, Duke boasts the fourth highest number of all-time wins in college basketball, and are ACC Champions a record 19 times. Head coach Mike Krzyzewski cultivated the most accurate offensive squad in the last decade, finishing 1st for in-conference offense, with 1.14 points per possession, and two players averaging more than 17 points a game. The Blue Devils will jumpstart their season on Nov 8, against Davidson at Durham. They will participate in Preseason NIT, hosting UNC Asheville on Nov 18 and East Carolina or Norfolk the following day. In late November (preseason NIT) they may square off against the Arizona Wildcats, for what is sure to be a firework match between the two. Their non-conference schedule is highlighted with a game against UCLA at Madison Square Garden (12/19), which is one of the top non-league games in the Country based on average ticket price ($689). Duke’s ACC conference games begin on the road Saturday, Jan 4 against Notre Dame, and they will host Georgia Tech on Jan 7 starting ACC play at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Big numbers are anticipated from freshman Jabari Parker (starting forward), named the ACC Preseason Rookie of the Year, averaging 18 points per game in high school. The Blue Devils acquired a (possible) new captain in Mississippi State transfer, Rodney Hood. Another experienced player is Quinn Cook; primed to be a crowning point guard in his junior year, averaging nearly 4 assists a game last season. Above all, Duke is most excited about the return of Andrew Dawkins, leading returning scorer and fan favorite, who took last year off to nurse family tragedy.
