Philadelphia 76ers 2014-2015 News and Updates

12/11/14 - After starting their season 0-17, the Philadelphia 76ers looked to be turning things around with two wins in three games, but their loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday seemed to indicate that there would be more work ahead. While the 76ers were able to put up points, they simply could not keep up with the Hawks, who have now won an impressive eight straight games. In the matchup, Michael Carter-Williams had 8 points, 10 rebounds, and 9 assists; however, it was Alexey Shved who led the 76ers with 13 points. Despite being last in the conference, the 76ers are trying to rediscover the formula that had them winning against the Timberwolves and the Pistons. After a road game against the 8-12 Brooklyn Nets, the 76ers will return home to face the Memphis Grizzlies. Tickets begin at $7 for the Saturday, December 13th matchup.

12/5/14 - The Philadelphia 76ers received their first win of the season on Wednesday, December 3rd, against the Minnesota Timberwolves with a final score of 85-77. With the win, the 76ers avoided tying the record for most consecutive defeats during the opening part of the season. The game between the two struggling teams started out with both teams shooting at the wrong basket, causing the referees to stop the game to correct the mistake about 16 seconds into it. The 76ers now have a season record of 1-17, and are ranked 5th in the Atlantic Division. They will next play the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday, December 5th. The game is sure to be a good one, with the Thunder's Durant back from injury and the 76ers finally having a win behind them. Tickets are available starting at $24.

11/24/14 - Tonight, November 21, 2014, the Philadelphia 76ers took on the Phoenix Suns. It was a close game for 3 quarters, but the Suns started to take pull away near the end. The Suns captured victory with a final score of 122-96. In the 76ers loss, Alexey Shved scored 15 points and had 5 assists. His efforts were not enough to help his team prevail, and they will need more players to step up if they want to get some momentum in their division. Currently, they are 0-12 in the regular season, and they seriously need to change things both offensively and defensively in order to secure a win. Up next for them is a game against the New York Knicks. Tickets for the game start out at $78.

11/17/14 - The Philadelphia 76ers were heartbreakingly close to ending the winning streak of the Houston Rockets. The nearly undefeated team (8-1) managed to win by a single point. After being tied at the half, the 76ers took a nice lead of 5 at the end of the third quarter. Certainly everyone in Philadelphia was dying for the 0-9 team to dethrone Houston, but it simply wasn’t to be. It’s no question that the 76ers have been having a rough season, but they have plenty of fight left in them if this game is any indication. Philadelphia has mostly home games left in the season, so you have many opportunities to cheer them on, the first of which is on the 19th against the Boston Celtics. Tickets start at $7.

11/13/14 - The Philadelphia 76ers have had a rough season so far, and Sunday’s game was no exception. With a final score of 88-120, this is the 76ers’ seventh loss in a row, bringing them to 0-7. Tony Wroten scored 18 points and Chris Johnson scored 16 for the 76ers. Philadelphia actually hasn’t won a game at Toronto since November 10th, 2012, so any hopes of breaking that were unrealized. The season is still young, of course, and the Philadelphia 76ers still have many opportunities to turn it around. They are about to start a series of away games, but they will return to Philadelphia on November 19th against the Boston Celtics. That will be your best opportunity to go and cheer the 76ers to a victory. Tickets are already available starting as low as $6.

11/6/14 - The Philadelphia 76ers have had a rocky start to their season with four early losses on the scoreboard. It’s still early in the NBA season, and no one seems to think the 76ers will have an especially good season, but they do have some exceptional talent in Nerlens Noel. He currently leads the NBA in opponent field goal percentage at the rim, and in the game against the Houston Rockets, he had an incredible block against James Harden. 76ers’ veteran Alexy Shved scored 18 points in 24 minutes in the game against the Indiana Pacers. Tony Wroten is making a concerted effort to replace the injured Michael Carter-Williams. Although no one is giving the 76ers hopes of making the NBA Championships, they are a team that is coming together and will be fun to watch.

10/29/14 - Speculation has risen that the Philadelphia 76ers could underperform again this season in search of another high draft pick. However the Sixers have not had the best of luck with those picks; Nerlens Noel has yet to play a game, Joel Embiid could be sidelined for the entire season after a foot injury, and Dario Saric is playing overseas.

10/23/14 - He was selected for his defense, and so far, the Philadelphia 76ers’ Nerlens Noel hasn’t disappointed. The rookie, who missed all of last year with a torn ACL, has impressed observers both in summer league and preseason play.

9/19/14 – The Philadelphia 76ers released their 2014-2015 schedule, revealing Michael Carter-Williams and company face an uphill battle to start off the year. The 76ers open regular season play against the Pacers in Indiana on Oct. 29. Philadelphia fans get a doozy of a home opener, when they host the Miami Heat at Wells Fargo Center on Nov. 1. Dwight Howard and the Houston Rockets visit on Nov. 3, followed by Derrick Rose and the Bulls on Nov. 7. Score Philadelphia 76ers tickets for some fun on Halloween Night, when Joel Embiid and crew visit his draft classmate Jabari Parker in Milwaukee.

2013-2014 Season

4/17/14 - n their penultimate game of the season, the Philadelphia 76ers broke a four game slide to emerge victorious over Boston 113-108. The Sixers got double figure scoring from six players, with Michael Carter-Williams leading the charge on 21 points and 14 rebounds, along with six assists, four steals and a pair of blocked shots. Tony Wroten scored 20 in a reserve role, while Thaddeus Young made a solid contribution of 15 points, seven boards, seven dishes, a pair of steals and three rejections. Rounding out the list of scorers in double figures on the night was Henry Sims with 13 points, and a pair of reserves, Brandon Davies with 11 points and Elliot Williams, who chipped in 10.

4/10/14 - The rollercoaster ride continues for the Philadelphia 76ers. Despite a triple-double by Rajon Rondo, the Sixers were able to dispatch Boston at the TD Garden, 111-102, on April 4; but the next night, back home at the Wells Fargo Center in south Philadelphia, the Sixers had no answer for Kevin Garnett in falling to Brooklyn 105-101. Thaddeus Young posted 20 points for the Sixers, while Michael Carter-Williams (12 points, 11 assists) and Henry Sims (11 points, 11 boards) tallied double-doubles. The Sixers were outscored 60-40 in the paint by the Nets, even though Brooklyn had just a 41-40 rebounding advantage. Off the court, Nerlens Noel says his surgically repaired knee is 100 percent recovered, and that he has added three inches to his vertical leap; however, the Sixers front office still has not set a time frame for Noel’s return this season at all.

4/2/14 - Let the record show that it was Detroit, on March 29. The Philadelphia 76ers, for the first time since the end of January, scored more than their opponent, defeating the Detroit Pistons 123-98, behind 21 points each from Michael Carter-Williams and Thaddeus Young. The Sixers led by as many as 32 points in breaking a historic 26-game slide, though remaining two games ahead of last place Milwaukee in the overall Eastern Conference standings. Also contributing double-digit scoring for Philly was Henry Sims, with 16 points; Hollis Thompson, who added 14; and Elliot Williams, who chipped in 13 off the bench. Alas, in their next game, the Sixers found themselves on the short end of a 103-95 score in Atlanta two nights later.

3/26/14 - At 25 straight losses and counting, the Philadelphia 76ers stand on the steps of NBA – and American professional team sports – history, but not quite in the way they would like. The Sixers are one loss away from tying, at 26 games, the longest losing streak in league history, set by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2010-11 season; in all of American pro team sports, only the Cavs and the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers have longer streaks of futility. Yet, the Sixers remain two games ahead of Milwaukee in the cellar of the NBA Eastern Conference. The Sixers’ last victory came on January 29.

3/19/14 - Not since a dreadful 1973 have the Philadelphia 76ers lost so many games in a row, and the streak now stands at 21 – a franchise record—after another loss to the Indiana Pacers, their second in four nights. However, head coach Brett Brown does not seem to be fazed by the string of losses; Brown recently told CSN Philly, “(We) took a further step toward the direction of a rebuild. We are trying to get youth and confirm that we are developing.” Young players like Michael Carter-Williams, who had a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds against the Pacers, will be the key to the Sixers’ future, along with whoever the squad acquires with the stockpiled draft picks from the trading deadline.

3/13/14 - The losses just keep piling up for the Philadelphia 76ers, who have now fallen 17 straight times and are just 2 ½ games ahead of Milwaukee for the worst record in the NBA. Neither five players scoring in double figures, including 23 each from Michael Carter-Williams and Tony Wroten off the bench; nor having a 42-35 edge in rebounding and 52-42 lead on points in the paint, were enough to propel the Sixers past New York in their most recent loss. The Sixers recently had four D-League players come in for a tryout; and it is possible that Nerlens Noel may have revealed his goal for making his Sixers debut next month.

3/6/14 - A long season just keeps getting longer in Philadelphia, as the 76ers fell to their 15th consecutive loss on March 4, 125-92 to Oklahoma City. The Sixers are not only 0-for March, but 0-for-February (their first winless month since 1973), having last been victorious on January 29 in Boston. Four players cracked double-digit scoring for Philly, led by guard James Anderson’s 20 points, 18 of which came from beyond the three-point arc (6-for-12). Rookie Michael Carter-Williams had a decent game for the Sixers, collecting 14 points along with five assists, four rebounds, and a pair of steals. Despite the mounting losses, league commissioner Adam Silver had praise for the Sixers’ long term outlook, in a story by USA Today.

2/27/14 - After acquiring Danny Granger from the Indiana Pacers at the trade deadline, the Philadelphia 76ers finally negotiated a buyout of his contract, allowing Granger to become a free agent and sign with a playoff contending team. Granger is expected to make his decision by the end of the week; reported destinations for the longtime Pacer include the Los Angeles Clippers; Houston; San Antonio; and fellow Eastern Conference rivals Chicago and Miami. League rules mandate that any player who has appeared in a regular season game must be waived by Saturday in order to be eligible for the postseason with another team.

2/20/14 - At the trading deadline, the Philadelphia 76ers were especially busy. Not only did the Sixers acquire several second round draft picks – two from the Washington Wizards as part of a three way deal with Denver along with guard Eric Maynor; another pair via Cleveland and Memphis along with center Henry Sims and Earl Clark (for Spencer Hawes); and a conditional pick from the Los Angeles Clippers, along with center Byron Mullens – they also acquired Danny Granger, finally deemed expendable by the Indiana Pacers, for forwards Evan Turner and Lavoy Allen. CSN Philly is reporting that all the activity is helping general manager Sam Hinkie “clean up some of the mistakes made by … previous front office regimes.”

2/7/14 - A couple of pieces of good news for the Philadelphia 76ers; one on the court, one off: On the court, rookie Michael Carter-Williams was named the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for January. Off the court, shooting guard Jason Richardson was cleared to begin taking light jump shots in his recovery from knee surgery a year ago. However, Richardson still has no timetable for his complete return to the Sixers lineup. The Sixers dropped a tough loss to Boston earlier in the week, 114-108.

1/31/14 - There have not been a lot of bright spots in the current season for the Philadelphia 76ers, but certainly one can point to the play of Sixers rookie Michael Carter-Williams as one of the brightest. The young point guard, a Syracuse product, is leading the Sixers in assists and steals, and is third on the team in scoring per game. Carter-Williams’ outstanding play has netted him a spot in the league’s Rising Stars Challenge, part of All-Star weekend in New Orleans later in February.

1/20/14 - The Philadelphia 76ers have lost some steam as of late, losing three games in a row, and seven of their last eight, most recently falling to the Washington Wizards on Monday, 99-107. It’s up to you to help bring back that winning momentum the 76ers experienced earlier this month! They’ll need a spark to start a streak of victories this Friday against the Toronto Raptors and get out of the dreaded last-place spot in the division. Tickets for their Jan 24 home-court game are a mere $14, to get into their next game against the OKC Thunder on Saturday you’ll pay $47, and a unbelievably low $8 for their match against the Phoenix Suns coming up next Monday!

2012-2013 Season

2/21/13 - In the 2012 NBA Playoffs, the Philadelphia 76ers earned the eighth seed and faced No. 1 seeded Chicago Bulls. The Sixers beat Chicago (who were minus Derrick Rose for most the series) and advanced to the second round where they were eliminated by the Boston Celtics.

Prior to the season, Philadelphia was involved in a four-team trade which gave them Jason Richardson from Orlando and Andrew Bynum from the Los Angeles Lakers. Unfortunately, the All-Star Center Bynum has yet to see action this season as he has been plagued by injuries. Picking up the slack is 2013 NBA All-Star Jrue Holiday who has blossomed into one of the game's best young point guards and a true floor general. It was Holiday who led the Sixers last year to the seventh game of the second round. Can he prove his growth by leading the Philadelphia 76ers further into the NBA Playoffs this year?

At the beginning of the season, Philadelphia 76ers tickets were averaging $78 which put them dead center amongst other NBA teams. Following the NHL lockout, the Philadelphia 76ers saw the second greatest decrease (-37%) in ticket prices among teams who share their market with an NHL team. Cheap Sixers tickets are available; in fact, tickets for every 76ers game are available for $10 or less. 76ers vs Knicks tickets on January 26 averaged $105, the sixth most expensive home game of the season. To watch the Sixers at Madison Square Garden on February 24, you'll pay a much greater price; the average Sixers vs Knicks ticket is $201.

Philadelphia 76ers 2014-2015 Season

It was understood that the Philadelphia 76ers would enter last season in a tough state, and the team all-but fulfilled their dismal prophesy, ending the season at 19-61—just four games better than the last-place Bucks. There were definite positives to take away from the year, namely Rookie of the Year awarded to Michael Carter-Williams after averaging 16.7 points, 6.3 assists and 6.2 rebounds in 2014.

Philadelphia relied on the likes of Thaddeus Young, James Anderson, Henry Sims and Hollis Thompson, though their breadth of talent was ill equipped to carry the team through the year. Little could be expected from the squad especially after the mass exodus of players at the trade deadline. The 76ers landed one of the top prospects in the 2014 Draft, swooping up Joel Embiid with the third overall pick. There is nowhere to go but up for Brett Brown’s team—score your Philadelphia 76ers tickets now and see where their young talent takes them in the 2014-2015 season!

2013-2014 Season

Rookie sensation Michael Carter-Williams is taking the league by storm. He was named Eastern Conference Player of the week in the first seven days of his NBA debut and has emerged as an early favorite for the NBA rookie of the year award. The Sixers opened the season with wins against defending NBA Champion Miami Heat, the Washington Wizards, and Chicago Bulls - an impressive feat for a squad no one had much expectation for. Evan Turner, Spencer Hawes and Thaddeus Young have looked good as well helping to prove that the Sixers can compete with the league’s best. It would appear that the Philly roster is proving coach Brett Brown wrong, there are more than six NBA players featured on this team!

With the departure of General Manager Tony DiLeo, the resignation of coach Doug Collins, and the trade of All-Star point guard Jrue Holiday, the 76ers have officially hit he ‘reset button’. Despite the additions of promising 2013 first round picks Nerlens Noel and Michael Carter-Williams, new GM Sam Hinkie and coach Brett Brown can likely expect the Sixers be a leading contender in the Andrew Wiggins sweepstakes. The most expensive 76ers game at Wells Fargo Arena for 2013-14 is against the defending champion Heat on 1/17. Holiday makes his first return to Philadelphia as a member of the Pelicans on 11/29.
